There were several exciting matchups on the schedule in Week 5, but the Monday Night Football battle between Seattle and Washington will be a fitting end to the week. When the betting line opened, the Seahawks were seven-point favorites over the Redskins, according to OddsShark.com.

After Seattle lost to San Diego in Week 2, the team bounced back and defeated the Denver Broncos in a Super Bowl rematch. The Seahawks had Week 4 as a bye and used the time off to rest and prepare for the long second half of the season.

On the other hand, the Redskins have struggled all year. Since the injury to quarterback Robert Griffin III, Washington has leaned on Cousins to carry the workload. A big win over Jacksonville in Week 2 was good for the team’s confidence, but back-to-back losses have the Redskins shaken.

When asked about the time off during the bye, Seattle head coach Pete Carroll spoke to ESPN, saying, “We wanted to maximize our chance to get our guys as fresh as possible for this big push here through this season. So we did (the) bye really successfully, we'll find out if the result was good when we go out and play on Monday night.”

As the Seahawks official Twitter account pointed out, Washington head coach Jay Gruden heaped heavy praise on Seattle’s defense:

The strong defense will only get stronger with pass-rush specialist Bruce Irvin returning this week, according to SiriusXM NFL Radio’s Twitter account:

The biggest key in this game is the Seahawks defense. The Redskins may have talented players on offense like Pierre Garcon, Alfred Morris and DeSean Jackson, but they will be facing one of the toughest units of the last 25 years.

Led by a sturdy defensive line, an elite linebacker group and a secondary featuring the most dangerous cornerback in the NFL, Richard Sherman, Seattle should have no problem forcing Cousins into making mistakes.

After watching the Washington quarterback throw for 257 yards, one touchdown and four interceptions against the New York Giants, Redskins fans should be terrified about the possible outcome for Monday’s game.

Add in the Seahawks offense being led by Russell Wilson and Marshawn Lynch, and Washington is in for a long night at home against the defending Super Bowl champions.
