Fred Greetham of Fox Sports Ohio provided a quote from Browns head coach Mike Pettine about Mingo's status for Sunday:
Mingo has been dealing with a shoulder injury that has limited his participation in practice. According to Mary Kay Cabot of the Cleveland Plain Dealer, Jabaal Sheard will get the start if Mingo is unable to play.
The second-year player from LSU had three tackles in the season opener against Pittsburgh. He had five sacks as a rookie and is expected to be a pass-rusher for Pettine's defense. The Browns can ill-afford to lose any defensive starters right now after getting torched in the first half last week and Drew Brees coming to town.
Mingo hasn't been the difference-maker that Cleveland was expecting coming out as the sixth-overall pick. He's still young and has tremendous raw potential. Losing the linebacker for one week doesn't help him develop or the team try to game plan around New Orleans' high-powered offense, so hopefully for the Browns he is able to go.
