Transfer Rumours...Dont Believe the Hype!

Mikey SmithJun 9, 2009

So... It's that time again.

Time for the vast amount of teams from across Europe to plunge into the dubious task of finding their next messiah.

We see it in the news every day...

'Team FC have made Player A a new target!'

Let's be honest. The people behind football teams aren't a bunch of mugs. They don't just stumble upon a talented player one day and decide they are going to buy him.

The transfer process is longer than that. Players are looked at for months and months, always monitoring progress and situations.

They have an idea of the type of player they want, then look at every player that could possibly fit that criteria. Scouts must look at hundreds of players for any one position from right across the globe.

They don't think 'Right, we need a right back. That Glenn Johnson is decent, how about him?' They will have had his every little move being watched and pin pointed for every single game he has played, checking out his positives and weaknesses.

The idea that the media gives off is that teams just so happen to come across a player one day that fits their bill perfectly. Oh how lucky!

It's never like that. These moves for these players are calculated well before the media gets hold of the info. All the media does is spray as much of what they can get a hold of.

Let's take Berbatov for example. Last year he was clearly leaving Tottenham, as stated in his interviews. Man Utd. were clearly looking for a centre forward, and will have tracked Berba right from day one.

The media made it out to seem as though Man Utd.'s interest was so unexpected and sudden. When, to be perfectly honest, Utd.'s interest had been there for months and months. Plotting together a little piece of information about him each week, ready to make their move come transfer season.

To make it clear to you, the transfer rumours you see are generally bull. They like to take a player that they know is being monitored by teams, then plaster his face across the news, building up the hype. The real deals are done behind closed doors without the input of the media.

All-in-all, most of the deals you will see this transfer window will be the deals that teams expected to get around two or three months ago. Nothing special to them, but big news for the media's motor mouths.
