Legends Are Forever: Solskjaer, Keane Meet at Old Trafford
With one Man U legend hanging up his boots and another visiting the Ground for the first time as a manager, the atmosphere at Old Trafford is sure to be electric come Saturday afternoon.
Both Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Roy Keane will most definitely receive great applause from the Manchester faithful.
Solskjaer announced his retirement earlier this week after suffering another setback in his three-year attempt to return from a knee injury. The fan favourite will be remembered as one of the most natural finishers since a certain Mr. Dennis Law, and will be mentioned in the same breath as names like Besty, Keano, Charlton, and Cantona.
His greatest performances—the four goals in 12 minutes as sub against Nottingham, "That Goal" against Barcelona 1999—will never be forgotten. One newspaper reported that, after announcing his retirement, Solskjaer was afforded a guard of honour by his United teammates before Tuesday's squad photograph.
Manchester fans will also welcome Keane on his first visit to United as a manager. Keane's current Sunderland team is stronger than that which effectively handed Chelsea the title a few years ago with a 0-0 draw at Old Trafford—and boasts a number of ex-United players and backroom staffers.
The popular speculation says Wayne Rooney is set for a dramatic early comeback this weekend after suffering a hairline fracture against Reading. The Boss has been telling Rooney not to rush back, but he's sure to be encouraged by the news that Rooney is eager to play—and also that Louis Saha is close to fit after not playing since December. In the managers press conferance this morning he confirmed both Saha and Anderson are fit and will feature against Sunderland. Gary Neville is still out after the set back of the thigh injury received in training.
Ronaldo, meanwhile, is serving the last game of his three-game suspension, so it's probable that Nani will make another start after his thunderous winner against Spurs last Sunday.
United will have to improve their performance if they're to beat a well-organised Sunderland team.
The starting line up is most likely to be:
Van Der Sar
Brown Ferdinand Vidic Evra
Giggs Carrick Hargraves Nani
Scholes
Tevez
