NBA Podcast: 2013-14 Brooklyn Nets Season Preview
After several offseason roster coups, expectations are sky high for the Brooklyn Nets. Are they ready to live up to them?
Trading a bag of nickels for Paul Pierce, Kevin Garnett and Jason Terry was impressive enough, but somehow convincing Andrei Kirilenko to take a huge pay cut and fewer minutes to be the team's super sub is downright crazy.
What's more, the Nets also retained Andray Blatche for a bargain price while filling out the bench with Shaun Livingston, Alan Anderson and rookie Mason Plumlee.
Deron Williams, Joe Johnson and Brook Lopez formed a more-than-solid core already last year, but this season's squad will trot out 35 combined All-Star appearances in its starting lineup alone. With the most expensive NBA roster ever, the Nets are a superteam by every definition.
Yet, the season won't be decided on paper, Jason Kidd's first game as Nets head coach will be the first of his coaching career, and the collective age and injury history of this group are troublesome. Eastern Conference competition will also be incredibly stiff at the top.
NBA assistant editors Ethan Norof and Joel C. Cordes lead the latest episode of Basketball by Association.
