5 Moves the Miami Heat Can Make to Ensure Their Dynasty Beyond 2014

Peter EmerickJun 8, 2018

The Miami Heat are one championship away from the establishment of a full-blown dynasty.

But what can the Heat do to keep that dynasty going past next year—assuming they're able to reel in their third straight championship when this upcoming season comes to an end?

Do they need to trade away one or two members of their current Big 2.5? Or must they let a superstar walk to bring in another alongside the likes of LeBron James?

The good news is that the Heat have a lot of options in terms of moves they can make to keep their dynasty alive past 2014.

The bad news, though, is that it involves breaking up the trio of talent that has helped them with two of the past three NBA titles.

Get Chris Bosh Out of South Beach

1 of 5

Sorry, Mr. Bosh, but the vote is in, and you're out.

Chris Bosh isn't the same player he once was, especially before he donned his No. 1 Miami Heat jersey. His production just isn't there, and the level of intensity that exists in his game has dropped to an all-time low.

While he's been on the roster for the Heat's past two titles, it's evident that the Heat got it done in spite of him, not with his production at the forefront.

Trading Bosh before the 2013-14 season ends gives the Heat a chance to get younger, more physical and also increase their cap space moving into the 2014 offseason—which would enable them to be more active.

The only problem with this move is that Bosh's value isn't nearly at the same level it was when he was a free agent three years ago. It's more important for the Heat to focus on getting rid of him, though, even if they can't get exactly what they want in return.

Clearing cap space is a must for the Heat if they want to be competitive in free agency next year, and a major way to do that is to send Bosh packing before it's too late.

Entice Carmelo Anthony to Join LeBron and Wade in South Beach

2 of 5

Adding a player like Carmelo Anthony couldn't happen unless the Heat move one of their near-max contract players.

Bosh is the most likely player to be moved simply because his production has been decreasing over the past two seasons and because the Heat have proved that they don't need him to win titles.

If 'Melo were to join forces with LeBron James and Dwyane Wade, the Heat would be nearly unstoppable—at least on the offensive side of the ball.

Having LeBron and Wade's chemistry mixed with 'Melo's stroke would be unfair for 29 other NBA teams, and it would be one of the most exciting lineups to watch in recent memory.

The only downside with this move is that it leaves the Heat with a gaping hole in the paint, especially on the defensive side of the ball. If Greg Oden can fill that gap, the Heat will be golden in terms of making a move like this happen. If not, adding another explosive superstar will be less feasible.

Either way, Heat fans would love to see LeBron and 'Melo running the show in South Beach because it would only enhance their stranglehold on NBA titles. And it would be like watching an All-Star Game every time the Heat step out on the floor.

Bring in Some Australian Swagger

3 of 5

The Heat have proved they can win with soft interior play, but that doesn't mean they have to settle for that throughout the next few seasons.

If Miami is looking for solid defensive pressure, intensity on both sides of the ball and shot-blocking abilities, they need to look no further than Australian-bred big man Andrew Bogut.

Sure, he's missed a bunch of games due to injury, but there's no doubt that when he's healthy he's one of the toughest, most physical centers in the game.

Adding Bogut's career averages of 12.2 points, 9.2 rebounds and 1.6 blocks per game to the Heat's roster won't turn South Beach upside down. The real difference would be seeing how the floor would open up for guys like LeBron and Wade to dominate in their own way, shape and form.

The Heat wouldn't have to break the bank for Bogut either, which would loosen up their pocket books in terms of bolstering their depth in a rather deep 2014 free-agent class.

Size doesn't always matter, but it certainly does in the NBA, especially on the East Coast having to contend with legitimate big men like Roy Hibbert, Al Horford and Brook Lopez on a regular basis.

Bringing Bogut on board will make LeBron and Wade's job much easier, and that's critical to the Heat's success as the years go on.

Give LeBron James Complete Control of the Roster in 2014 Offseason

4 of 5

LeBron James has proved that he can win. More importantly, he's proved that he knows how to win with the talent that is around him.

With that being said, the Heat would be wise to give LeBron the reins of the franchise during the 2014 offseason. Doing so would not only empower LeBron as the foundation of the Heat's future, but it would also put him in control of selecting who he indeed wants to play with.

When I say give LeBron "complete control," I mean complete control in the truest sense of the term. LeBron decides who he wants to pursue in free agency and who he wants to try to move from the Heat's current pool of talent.

This is the step that the Cleveland Cavaliers dropped the ball on. Instead of letting LeBron find talent he wanted, they decided who was best for himand we all saw how that worked out.

Allowing LeBron to pick who he wanted on the roster would show Miami's faith and trust in him, but it would also be a great way for Pat Riley and Co. to put all the pressure on him as well.

If LeBron picks players and they lose, the weight of the world is on him. If he picks talent and wins, then the franchise continues to dominate the world of professional sports and letting LeBron have the reins looks like the smartest move it could've made.

If you’re wondering whether or not the Heat could feasibly let LeBron create his own roster, just take a look at the amount of free agents they will have after the 2014 season.

This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to give a player, and Miami would be insane to let it pass by.

Trade Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh for Draft Picks

5 of 5

This move sounds rather outlandish, but just hear me out.

LeBron James has finally proved that he can win titles with whatever talent is on the roster. While that's great for the moment, it doesn't necessarily give the Heat anything to hold onto for the future of their franchise.

If LeBron leaves during the summer of 2014, the Heat would be left without a positive future, and that would be quite a shift for the reigning NBA champs.

Trading both Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh would be an earth-shattering moveand it certainly wouldn't be a favorable onebut it would enhance Miami's future, especially if they could move those players for some current average talent and 2014 draft picks.

With the likes of Andrew Wiggins, Jabari Parker, Marcus Smart and Julius Randle, there is a vast array of franchise talent just waiting to be snatched up in the 2014 NBA draft.

Moving Wade and Bosh wouldn't make LeBron's job easier in terms of giving the Heat their third straight title, but it would give him a chance to prove that he can win as the lone superstar while also giving Miami the opportunity to grab talent for the immediate and long-term future.

This wouldn't be a fan-favorite move, but it would be interesting to see it play out.
