NBA Playoffs 2012: Power Ranking Finals Matchups We Want to See

Tim KeeneyJun 7, 2018

If you don't have a favorite NBA team, there's a good chance you just want to see the most exciting matchup possible in the NBA Finals.

Of course, if you do have a favorite team—say, the San Antonio Spurs—the only matchup you probably want to see is the Spurs against a Dwight Howard-less Orlando Magic.

You don't want to see excitement. You want to see wins.

So, this one goes out to all those people who just want to see the best games possible. For those who couldn't care less about who wins and just want to be able to stay awake while watching the games, I present the best possible finals matchups.

Boston Celtics vs. Memphis Grizzlies

Just kidding.

3. Boston Celtics vs. Los Angeles Clippers

I realize the Celtics, with their "we aren't going to score much, but you will score less" strategy, aren't the most fun team to watch play. Still, this one has watchability (it's a word) simply because of the point guard matchup.

Chris Paul is showing in this Memphis series that he is the most unstoppable player in the league when he wants to be. For three quarters, he'll manage the game and get everyone else involved. But in the fourth quarter, when the game is close, he'll go into you-can't-stop-me mode.

And that's a fun mode to watch.

On the other side of the ball is Rajon Rondo, whose length and quickness make him a pesky matchup for Paul. Not to mention, it's a surprise when he doesn't record a triple-double in a playoff game.

Sure, the Paul Pierce-Randy Foye matchup isn't all that intriguing, and Reggie Evans versus Kevin Garnett might just get someone killed, but watching these point guards battle?

Worth it.

2. Miami Heat vs. Oklahoma City Thunder

Yeah, yeah, yeah. The two favorites. That's no fun for the common fan, who'd rather see the Sixers play the Nuggets due to the underdog appeal.

But I have two words for you: LeBron James.

Alright, I'm going to need two more: Kevin Durant.

The NBA just needs to hold off giving out the MVP with the possibility of this series in the future. That's because the winner of this showdown should just automatically get the MVP.

Remember during the regular season when Durant dominated Miami and jumped to the top of MVP talk? And then LeBron came back a couple of weeks later and dominated OKC to jump back to the top of MVP talk?

Yeah, I could go for more of that battle.

1. Miami Heat vs. San Antonio Spurs

Say what you want, but this isn't the same Spurs team you're used to. They are absolutely a well-oiled machine on offense, and as a result, they have scored 103.6 points per game, which is first in the NBA.

Watching the Spurs' efficient attack against Miami's defense, which gave up just 91.8 a game, would be thrilling and would almost certainly provide some instant classics.

Also, there's almost nothing better I can think of than watching Matt Bonner hit a clutch three in the NBA Finals with LeBron James running at him.

It won't happen, but there's nothing better I can think of.
