2012 NFL Mock Draft: Definitive Choices for Every First-Round Team

Zach KruseApr 3, 2012

Definitive choices for each first-round team in our 2012 NFL mock draft:

1. Indianapolis Colts: Andrew Luck, QB, Stanford

There is flirtation with Robert Griffin III, but Luck should end up being the Colts' choice.

2. Washington Redskins: Robert Griffin III, QB, Baylor (via trade with St. Louis Rams)

Even if the Colts surprise the world and take Griffin, that Luck guy is a decent consolation prize.

3. Minnesota Vikings: Matt Kalil, OT, USC

With Kalil slated as the starter at left tackle, the Vikings may have a surprisingly good offensive line in 2012.

4. Cleveland Browns: Trent Richardson, RB, Alabama

As the draft process has wore on, you see Richardson as the Browns' pick more and more.

5. Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Morris Claiborne, CB, LSU

If the draft falls this way, I don't see how the Bucs can pass on a talent in the secondary like Claiborne.

6. St. Louis Rams: Justin Blackmon, WR, Oklahoma State (via trade with Washington Redskins)

I think Michael Floyd could be very much in play here, but Blackmon is a safer pick in the top 10.

7. Jacksonville Jaguars: Melvin Ingram, DE, South Carolina

An edge-rushing combination of Ingram and up-and-coming Jeremy Mincey is a good start for the Jaguars' pass rush.

8. Miami Dolphins: Ryan Tannehill, QB, Texas A&M

The Dolphins struck out on a free-agent quarterback, but getting a first-round quality player in Tannehill might be a better option.

9. Carolina Panthers: Dontari Poe, DT, Memphis

The Panthers have made big strides in just one year, but it's time to start securing difference-makers in the trenches.

10. Buffalo Bills: Riley Reiff, OT, Iowa

The Bills could get greedy and take another pass-rusher here, but Reiff will be a plug-and-play left tackle for Demetrius Bell, who is likely to leave in free agency.

11. Kansas City Chiefs: Luke Kuechly, LB, Boston College

I think Poe would have been a great pick for Kansas City if he fell to No. 11, but Kuechly, a tackling machine at Boston College, gives the Chiefs another player that can help the middle of their defense.

12. Seattle Seahawks: Nick Perry, DE, USC

Not everyone is sold on Perry, but head coach Pete Carroll recruited him to USC and the defensive end fits a need in Seattle.

13. Arizona Cardinals: David DeCastro, G, Stanford

An offensive tackle and pass-rusher will be tempting positions to consider here, but DeCastro is arguably the best guard prospect we've seen since Steve Hutchinson.

14. Dallas Cowboys: Stephon Gilmore, CB, South Carolina

The Cowboys spent big in free agent on cornerback Brandon Carr, but Gilmore is a special talent that shouldn't fall outside of the top 15.

15. Philadelphia Eagles: Quinton Coples, DL, North Carolina

In Coples, the Eagles get a versatile defensive lineman who can be a factor rushing the passer from both the inside and out.

16. New York Jets: Courtney Upshaw, OLB, Alabama

I don't think Rex Ryan can handle another season without an impact pass-rusher on the outside.

17. Cincinnati Bengals: Cordy Glenn, G, Georgia

It won't be a sexy pick, but Glenn fills a need and represents good value, especially given his ability to play many positions along the offensive line.

18. San Diego Chargers: Jonathan Martin, OT, Stanford

The Chargers will have plenty of options, but I like them solidifying the two tackle spots by taking Martin at No. 18.

19. Chicago Bears: Whitney Mercilus, DE, Illinois

The Bears have added offensive pieces via free agency, so it makes sense for GM Phil Emery's first-ever draft pick to be a potentially dominant pass-rusher to place opposite Julius Peppers.

20. Tennessee Titans: Peter Konz, C, Wisconsin

By not finding an answer at center in free agency, Tennessee might have to take the top player available at the position in the first round.

21. Cincinnati Bengals: Lamar Miller, RB, Miami

Running backs in the first round are going out of style, but Miller is a game-changing player in the backfield.

22. Cleveland Browns: Michael Floyd, WR, Notre Dame

If Floyd falls this far, the Browns shouldn't hesitate to make him the pick at No. 22 overall.

23. Detroit Lions: Dre Kirkpatrick, CB, Alabama

The Lions wouldn't complain if a top cornerback fell to them here, as free agency robbed them of much depth at the position.

24. Pittsburgh Steelers: Dont'a Hightower, ILB, Alabama

Hightower is a natural replacement for what the Steelers received from James Farrior for many years.

25. Denver Broncos: Devon Still, DT, Penn State

The Broncos may be tempted to give Peyton Manning an offensive weapon, but Still fills a big hole defensively.

26. Houston Texans: Kendall Wright, WR, Baylor

Wright and Andre Johnson would make a top receiver tandem in Houston.

27. New England Patriots: Mark Barron, S, Alabama

In Barron, the Patriots get a plug-and-play safety who should be a factor right away in the secondary.

28. Green Bay Packers: Fletcher Cox, DL, Mississippi State

GM Ted Thompson should want an outside linebacker to fall, but there's no value pick at the position left in this scenario. Cox is a fine consolation prize.

29. Baltimore Ravens: Andre Branch, OLB, Clemson

A pass-rushing linebacker isn't a need in Baltimore, but the Ravens appreciate as much as any team the value in bringing in people to rush the quarterback.

30. San Francisco 49ers: Michael Brockers, DT, LSU

Given the additions made during free agency on the offensive side of the ball, the 49ers can afford to take Brockers, an early first-round talent who is still raw and needs developing, at No. 30.

31. New England Patriots: Shea McClellin, OLB, Boise State

Given how highly most speak of him, I doubt McClellin falls out of the first round.

32. New York Giants: Mike Adams, OT, Ohio State

Adams is the kind of high-risk, high-reward picks that you can afford to make at No. 32 overall.
