Lakers Trade Rumors: Ramon Sessions Must Be Priority No. 1 for Lake Show
The Los Angeles Lakers—and more specifically Pau Gasol—have been at the center of NBA trade rumors for the past month, but if they want to contend this year they need to make Ramon Sessions priority No. 1.
They shouldn't move Gasol to Houston, or Minnesota, or even Chicago, as the latest rumor has revealed the Bulls as players for the power forward.
They shouldn't go after Kyle Lowry, although the fact he's sidelined for two-to-four weeks probably makes that pretty clear. But they really shouldn't go after the young point guard because the Rockets probably wouldn't give him up for anything the Lakers can offer.
They shouldn't go after Raymond Felton, Gilbert Arenas or any other point guard.
They shouldn't do anything but try to acquire Ramon Sessions, and that's assuming they don't have to give up Gasol to get him.
Sessions is backing up electric rookie Kyrie Irving in Cleveland, and according to Alex Kennedy of Hoopsworld, Los Angeles is the front-runner for his services.
"Ramon Sessions is a more obtainable option. The Lakers have been linked to Sessions for weeks and they continue to express significant interest in the Cleveland Cavaliers’ point guard. While other teams have called about Sessions, the Lakers are believed to be the frontrunner to acquire his services, if they decide to pull the trigger on a deal.
"
And "pull a trigger" the Lakers should.
Derek Fisher has big biceps and all, but he's not going to lead the Lakers to the promised land, and the Lakers know that. Fish has only gotten 30 minutes or more twice in the past 20 games.
After him, the Lakers have Steve Blake. While Blake has done a good job of running the offense and distributing the ball as of late, he isn't enough of a scoring or defensive threat.
Blake is a savvy veteran, but he just isn't someone to plug into the starting lineup.
Sessions on the other hand, is a point guard capable of playing 30-35 minutes per game and taking a team to the championship. You know, as long as he has Kobe, Gasol and Bynum by his side.
He's dynamic in every aspect of the game, as evidenced by his 10.6 points, 3.1 rebounds, 5.1 assists and 0.6 steals in just 24.5 minutes per game this year.
He can drive and finish, drive and kick or hit the occasional open three-pointer. He can run an offense like a true point guard or take over and score if necessary.
If the Lakers insist on making a move this trade deadline, Sessions makes the most sense. Simply put, he would make this team better right now, and that should be priority No. 1.
