What They're Saying
With the Celtics suffering so many injuries, Doc Rivers has been forced to play rookie JaJuan Johnson more and more.
The Boston coach isn’t afraid of letting him know when he makes a mistake, and the young man responds to it well, according to Mark Murphy of The Boston Herald.
"“It reminded me of my college coach yelling,” Johnson said of Rivers’ loud words in Toronto. “But it needed to be done. We weren’t doing what we were supposed to do. You don’t want a coach just sitting back and letting it happen. It was a good thing, and it got everybody’s attention.”
"
Perry A. Farrell of The Detroit Free Press noted that Ben Wallace broke a longstanding record last night, even though his team failed to win.
"When a team faces the San Antonio Spurs, it knows what to expect: early and heavy doses of Tim Duncan to start the game, followed by the consistent offensive execution of veterans Manu Ginobili and Tony Parker.
Ben Wallace had seen it firsthand for 16 years, and Tuesday, playing in his 1,055th game, the most among undrafted NBA players, he helped the Pistons during a fourth-quarter comeback that fell short in a 99-95 loss.
"
Most Important Player to Watch: Rajon Rondo
Rondo is obviously upset he was left off of the All-Star team this season and took it out against the Chicago Bulls this past Sunday.
The stud PG put up 32 points, 15 assists and 10 rebounds against Eastern Conference All-Star starter Derrick Rose’s (DNP-Back Spasms) team.
Rondo is playing with a chip on his shoulder and should continue to dominate the opposition to prove to the coaches and fans around the league he is a top player.
Key Matchup: Low Post Play
The Celtics are most likely going to go without KG, possibly without JO and certainly without Brandon Bass tonight.
This will severely hinder the inside presence as guys like Chris Wilcox, Greg Stiemsma and JaJuan Johnson will need to step up to take on Greg Monroe, Jason Maxiell and Ben Wallace down low.
Prediction
Celtics 92, Pistons 84
This game may be close at first, but the Celtics will be rested up and have the experience to pull away late.
