Rajon Rondo: The Craftiest Point Guard in the NBA

Austen E. MarshellJun 7, 2018

Rajon Rondo of the Boston Celtics is the NBA's best point guard. The league is filled with great point guards and has changed significantly from being dominated by power forwards and centers to being run by point guards and ball handlers.

The biggest knock on Rondo is his shooting, but the fact that he can't shoot only helps him because every defender gives him almost 10 feet of space at the top. This give him the chance to stand there and dissect the floor, putting the Celtics in prime position to score.

In the last four years, Rondo has proven his case in a strong argument as to who is the best point guard in the NBA.

If you are a true basketball guru and truly know your history, then you understand what every position on the hardwood does and what their responsibilities are. On that note, depending on your style, you know without question that Rondo is probably the best point guard in the league when traditionally speaking.

Rondo’s defense is beyond comparison and his court vision and decision-making on a fast-break are uncanny. His passes to Ray Allen and Paul Pierce are next to perfect, not to mention his ability to know when Kevin Garnett or any other big man for the Celtics has pulled down enough rebounds and deserves an alley-oop for running the floor.

The Chicago Bulls' Derrick Rose is a hybrid. Allen Iverson reincarnated. Rose is willing to play point guard, practice and make his teammates better along with being humble.  But reality is, Rose is a scorer. Another shooting guard trapped in a point guard body.

Oklahoma City's Russell Westbrook is a shooting guard without question. If the Thunder could find a real point guard to run the offense, then Westbrook might slide over to the next spot at any moment.

Chris Paul of the Los Angeles Clippers has a competitive fire that rivals Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant while the New Jersey Nets' Deron Williams is too much to handle physically for most point guards.

Rondo has a poker face and won't be intimidated. He has guarded LeBron James at times with some success and has taken the reigns of the Celtics as the true general and floor leader.

The Celtics wouldn't be the same type of team without Rondo and through all his shooting woes and supposed unpredictable attitude, the Celtics don't have three future Hall of Famers, but more than likely, four of them.
