B/R's 2023-24 Men's College Basketball All-American Teams

David KenyonMar 11, 2024

Excitement is only building around college basketball as conference tournaments continue rolling and March Madness looms on the horizon. Before the bulk of the championship races begin, however, it's All-American season.

Very unsurprisingly, Zach Edey stood atop the nation as the most outstanding individual in the 2023-24 men's campaign.

Joining the Purdue center on Bleacher Report's list of first-team All-Americans are a few superstars on highly ranked teams. Connecticut, Houston and Tennessee may also secure a No. 1 seed in the NCAA tournament, and they're each represented with a top honor here.

B/R college basketball writers Kerry Miller and David Kenyon combined to name our 15 All-Americans this season.

Third Team

1 of 7
Vonterius Woolbright
Vonterius Woolbright

Hunter Dickinson, Kansas

After spending three seasons at Michigan, Hunter Dickinson left for Kansas and brought elite production with him. The left-hander has averaged 18.0 points, 10.8 rebounds, 2.2 assists and 1.4 blocks, shooting 55.0 percent from the floor. This is Dickinson's second time landing an All-American nod from B/R.

Johni Broome, Auburn

Last year, Johni Broome landed second-team All-SEC recognition in his first season with Auburn. The transfer from Morehead State elevated his play in 2023-24, notching 16.3 points, 8.5 boards and 2.3 blocks per game while leading the Tigers to the brink of another NCAA tourney bid. To date, Broome has posted 10 double-doubles.

Baylor Scheierman, Creighton

Baylor Scheierman, like Broome, made the high-major leap in 2022-23, going from South Dakota State to Creighton. He's jumped from 12.8 points per game on a 42.4 shooting clip to an 18.5-point average at a 45.6 rate, including 37.9 percent from the perimeter. Scheierman has also provided 8.8 rebounds and 4.1 assists per game, placing Creighton on track for a top-four seed in the Big Dance.

Vonterius Woolbright, Western Carolina

You like small-school superstars? There are few, if any, better than Vonterius Woolbright this season. The senior guard amassed 21.1 points, 12.0 rebounds and 5.6 assists per game and leads the country with five triple-doubles. Western Carolina's loss in the SoCon tourney means Woolbright will not be playing in March Madness, though.

Caleb Love, Arizona

The leading scorer on the Pac-12 regular-season champion, Caleb Love has tallied 18.7 points per game in his debut campaign with Arizona. Love, a transfer from North Carolina, has also contributed 4.9 rebounds and 3.4 assists per night for one of the nation's most electric offenses.

Second Team

2 of 7
Mark Sears
Mark Sears

Kyle Filipowski, Duke

Before he presumably heads to the NBA, Kyle Filipowski is wrapping up a terrific sophomore year at Duke. A well-rounded center, he's netted 16.7 points per game on 50.4 percent shooting with a 35.3 long-range clip. Filipowski has also collected 8.0 rebounds, 2.8 assists, 1.6 blocks and 1.1 steals per contest, and the Blue Devils should be no worse than a No. 4 seed in the NCAA tourney.

DaRon Holmes II, Dayton

Although two late losses stung Dayton's postseason outlook, the Flyers are a dangerous team because of DaRon Holmes II. The third-year forward has poured in 20.2 points per game, and his 38.7 three-point rate completes a starting unit loaded with perimeter weapons. Holmes is also averaging 8.3 rebounds, 2.6 assists and 2.1 blocks.

Jaedon LeDee, San Diego State

Over the past four seasons at three schools, Jaedon LeDee opened only four games and peaked at 7.9 points per game. He's put together an incredible breakout year as a first-time starter in 2023-24, leading SDSU with 20.5 points and 8.2 rebounds per game.

Mark Sears, Alabama

Similar to Broome and Scheierman, Mark Sears joined the high-major crowd last season and has starred this year. The veteran guard, previously at Ohio, has filled the box score with 21.1 points, 4.1 assists, 4.0 rebounds and 1.7 steals per game. Sears has also buried a sizzling 44.1 percent of his nightly 5.5 shots from the perimeter.

Tyler Kolek, Marquette

Although an oblique injury has sidelined Tyler Kolek lately, he's clearly deserving of All-American status. While scoring 15.0 points per outing, he's knocked down 40.0 percent of looks from beyond the arc. Kolek, an elite passer, leads Division I with 7.6 assists per game on a Marquette offense that is 21st nationally in effective field-goal percentage.

First Team: RJ Davis, North Carolina

North Carolina capped the regular season with a victory at rival Duke to secure the ACC title. No matter what happens in the conference tourney, the Tar Heels will be a popular pick to reach the Final Four.

For now, though, RJ Davis deserves the spotlight.

The fourth-year guard has been UNC's catalyst this season, averaging 21.1 points and 3.5 assists. He's not always an efficient shooter overall, but he has drained 41.6 of his attempts from the perimeter along with a sterling 88.6 rate at the free-throw line.

Jamal Shead does a little bit of everything on both ends of the court for Houston, the Big 12 champion.

Not only has he scored 13.2 points per game, but Shead has also tallied 6.2 assists and 2.3 steals. He's an irreplaceable part of the stingiest defense in Division I, which cedes just 56.9 points per contest.

Shead leads the country in Defensive Box Plus/Minus and is third in both Defensive Win Shares and defensive rating.

Houston's upside in March hinges on Shead's spectacular versatility.

First Team: Tristen Newton, Connecticut

Tristen Newton, similarly, has a constant presence.

A starter on last season's championship-winning team, Newton has impressively shifted into the leading role in 2023-24. He's averaged 15.0 points, 7.1 rebounds and 5.8 assists, pacing UConn in each category.

Newton is one of only six players with multiple triple-doubles this season. Most recently, he registered 10 points, 16 rebounds and 10 assists in a late-February victory over Villanova.

Led by Newton, UConn set a program record with 18 conference wins and secured a regular-season Big East title.

First Team: Dalton Knecht, Tennessee

If he's not the most explosive scorer in the country, Dalton Knecht certainly isn't far down the list.

Late in February, he racked up 39 points and carried Tennessee to a critical SEC victory over Auburn. He closed the regular season with a 40-point outburst against Kentucky, even as the Vols lost a tight game.

Considering those performances, it shouldn't be surprising that Knecht is third nationally in Offensive Box Plus/Minus. The transfer from Northern Colorado has registered 21.4 points per game, hitting 40.5 percent of his threes with a 47.4 clip overall.

Tennessee, the regular-season SEC winner, is aiming to land a top seed for March Madness behind Knecht and a stingy defense.

First Team: Zach Edey, Purdue

In short: The easiest choice.

Zach Edey has commanded the post for Purdue, which cruised to an outright Big Ten crown. He netted 24.2 points and 11.7 rebounds per game, both of which are top-three averages in the country.

After a 25-point, 14-rebound line against Wisconsin in the finale, Edey has recorded 22 double-doubles—most among high-major players.

Edey closed the regular season with the most two-pointers and free throws made in the nation. Additionally, he stands atop the sport in player efficiency rating (PER), Offensive Win Shares and Box Plus/Minus.
