D'Andre Swift, Bears Reportedly Agree to Contract Extension Ahead of 2026 NFL Season

Chicago Bears running back D'Andre Swift will no longer be entering the 2026 season on an expiring contract.

The Bears and Swift have agreed to a three-year, $33.75 million extension with $27.5 million guaranteed, ESPN's Adam Schefter reported Friday.

Swift was previously signed through the 2026 season on his last three-year, $24 million contract with the Bears.

The extension will keep Swift under contract through his age-30 season in 2029.

His new deal comes two days before the Bears open the 2026 campaign Sunday at the Carolina Panthers.

Swift spent the first three years of his NFL career with the Detroit Lions, then earned a Pro Bowl nod with the Philadelphia Eagles in 2024 before signing with the Bears the following offseason.

He is coming off a 2025 season during which he recorded career highs in rushing yards (1,087) and rushing touchdowns (nine) while leading the Bears with 223 carries.

That helped the Bears go from ranking 25th in the NFL in rushing offense in 2024 to ranking third in the league last season.

Swift also recorded 34 catches for 299 receiving yards and a touchdown. Second-year head coach Ben Johnson said earlier this summer he plans to use Swift more as a receiver this season, per the Chicago Sun-Times' Jason Lieser.

Johnson, who previously overlapped with Swift during his tenure as the Lions' offensive coordinator, indicated last month he is expecting Swift to reach another level under new Bears running backs coach Eric Studesville.

"It's the best I've seen him this time of year," Johnson said last month about Swift. "You look back on a year ago, he was very explosive, and yet it takes a little while to gel between him and the offensive line.

"I think he's accelerating his vision here at this point. I think Coach Studesville has been fantastic for him... I think he's primed for a big year."

Swift didn't play during the preseason and exited practice early last week but was not listed on the Bears' Week 1 injury report.

He could now look to celebrate his new contract by testing a Panthers run defense that ranked 20th in the league last year when Sunday's season opener kicks off at 1 p.m. ET in Charlotte.
