Arsenal vs. Olympiakos: Arsene Wenger and Gunners Should Command Full Points

Gabe ZaldivarJun 5, 2018

Arsene Wenger and his Gunners welcome a rare opportunity on Wednesday, a chance to capture what should be an easy three points.

Nothing has been easy this season, in either the EPL or Champions League. On Wednesday, Arsenal entertains Olympiakos in Champions League group play.

The match should be a sigh of relief, unless it isn't. The only downside to such an affair is that Wenger's boys are mandated to procure the full three points after splitting them against Borussia Dortmund a couple weeks ago.

Olympiakos doesn't travel well historically and should be easy prey as they enter Emirates. Wenger will have Arsenal ready to push the ball forward and wide at the outset.

The last thing this club needs is a close shave after 90 minutes. The match should be dominated by a surging side in Arsenal, but the more the minutes tick off without a goal, the more that manager and player will be feeling the heat.

Olympiakos is not going to kill anyone with dynamic firepower up front. The Arsenal defense should be able to hold back any attack the Greek club could mount.

The Gunners will be free to control the pace and possession of the ball, giving Arsenal something they haven't had in what seems like months: an easy win.

From a summer that saw Wenger toe the line with irate fans who felt he was far too patient with signings, to a slow start in the Premiership, Arsenal has been grasping for some sort of solid effort to cling to.

With new talent infused into the roster, it is only a matter of time before the Gunners rise to the top-shelf where they belong.

There is no better place to start that rise than Wednesday. I don't want to think about what fans will feel if they don't.

A club that is so brittle from a public relations standpoint could hardly survive an upset at this point. Arsenal cannot afford to drop this clash to Olympiakos. It's a good thing for them that it will be a cakewalk.
