Manchester United: Nani's Top 5 EPL Goals for the Red Devils

Whilst Fernando Torres’ miss stole all the headlines at Old Trafford, the performance of Nani seemed to take a backseat despite a fantastic man-of-the-match display from the winger.

Over the last two years, Nani looks to have finally come of age following an erratic start to his Old Trafford career and his display in the 3-1 win over Chelsea highlighted the giant strides he has made in that time.

Whilst many people still believe that he lives in the shadow of Cristiano Ronaldo, the Portuguese winger has finally cast off the shackles and become his own man.

Comparisons between the two players are always going to be made but Sir Alex Ferguson added, “He is only in Ronaldo's shadow because he is Portuguese, that is the only link I can see. He was never in his shadow in my mind. He has always had great potential but some players take longer to mature than others.”

Comparisons aside, Nani was simply wonderful against Chelsea and his goal was good enough to win any game.

It’s not the first time the winger has produced a jaw-dropping strike. Here’s a selection of his five finest for United in the Premier League.

5. Arsenal: August 2011

We start the countdown during United’s comprehensive 8-2 dismantling of Arsenal as Nani scored his side’s fifth goal.

The goal oozed class and confidence of a player at the top of his game as the winger produced a flamboyant chip over Wojciech Szczesny.

Had the chip not come off then the 24-year-old would have looked rather foolish, but when it hit the net it was quite simply mesmeric.

4. Chelsea: September 2011

Yesterday’s strike against Chelsea makes it in at fourth place as the winger produced a thunderous strike that left Petr Cech routed to the spot.

Chelsea may feel that Nani cut inside too easily as he passed Juan Mata, but take nothing away from the strike, in terms of striking a ball this was just perfection.

3. Tottenham: August 2007

There can’t be many better ways to introduce yourself to your new club then by scoring the winner.

Nani took it to new levels however as he fired in an unstoppable 30-yard strike that flew past Paul Robinson to seal United’s first win of the campaign.

When United’s new summer signing collected the ball there looked little danger but he found the top corner with a superb strike.

2. Arsenal: January 2010

This was the day Nani came of age.

Up until this point the player flattered to deceive in a United shirt, but he produced a devastating performance to help his team close the gap on leaders Chelsea.

There looked to be little danger when he collected the ball on the right wing but he evaded Gael Clichy, Samir Nasri and Denilson before clipping the ball to the back post.

On first viewing it looked like a shot, but in fact it was an attempt on goal as the ball dropped into the net via the palm of Manuel Almunia.

Many people tried to take the goal away from the winger but it would be wrong to award an own goal after a great passage of play.

1. Middlesborough: October 2007

Nani’s finest goal in a United shirt can be summed up by three of his main attributes: pace, trickery and a devastating shot.

The move started in his own half as he beat two players before cutting inside and unleashing a dipping 30-yard effort that flew past Mark Schwarzer.

There are not enough superlatives to describe this goal, it was quite literally breathtaking.
