Arsenal Transfer News: Jack Wilshere Joins Van Persie, Demands Transfer Activity

Arun MJun 7, 2018

After two months into the transfer window, Arsenal have not made any significant signings in the main area which it needed to improve: the defense.

Arsene Wenger signed Carl Jenkinson, who played in the preseason friendlies and in the Emirates Cup. Apart from the own goal against FC Cologne, he had a good preseason and one can expect him to be a backup for Bacary Sagna.

The criticism he got for his own goal has made him delete his Twitter account!

His last tweet was "de-activating my twitter, thank u all 4 all your support and kind words, I will be working double hard to make you all proud this season :)".

Another signing, Gervinho, has had a great preseason so far by scoring a brace in his debut and assisting Robin van Persie in another match.

Apart from these two signings, the transfer window period for Arsenal has been disappointing.

It was widely known that Arsenal was interested in Argentinean Ricardo Alvarez, who was signed at the last moment by Inter Milan, who overtook the Gunners by a better bid (around £2 million higher than the Gunners' bid).

The next player who may have to follow Alvarez's footsteps maybe Juan Mata from Valencia. Mata had a release clause in his contract, according to which if Arsenal paid £18 million for Mata before August 1, they can start negotiating with the player.

Valencia and Arsenal had accepted terms, while Mata was also willing to come to the Emirates. But the Arsenal board failed to make a bid before the deadline and so Mata is still contracted to Valencia.

The north Londoners will now have to shell out more than £28 million—50 percent more than their previous offer—if they want to land their man, according to the metro.co.uk. Suddenly, Juan Mata has become a Mata of money. And Wenger going all out to get Mata would be impossible as he would never bid more than £25 million.

Apart from the transfer activity, the players have started feeling that the Gunners need some transfer activity in order to cope with the top clubs.

First, it was Samir Nasri, who refused to sign a contract, doubting the Gunners ambition to win trophies.

Nasri wanted Wenger to bolster the squad with significant signings this transfer window before he will contemplate extending his contract to stay at the Emirates.

A few weeks back, van Persie also stated the Gunners need to buy big.

He said: "Why not sign a player for big money? These days proper players cost money. It needs to be seen—a few signings are more than welcome."

The next player to join Nasri and van Persie is young Jack Wilshere.

According to mirrorfootball.co.uk, Wilshere has insisted that Arsenal need to venture into the transfer market if they are to mount a successful challenge for the Premier League title this season.

After watching the two games played by Arsenal in the Emirates Cup, every fan would want Wenger and the Arsenal Board to act quickly and make some signings (preferably in the defense section).

Arsenal have been linked with Christopher Samba, Gary Cahill and Phil Jagielka, but no concrete move has happened yet.

It is not every other day that a club like Arsenal gets booed by its own supporters in its home ground.

Time to take some action, Wenger?
