Juventus: 4 Players That Would Take Juventus Back to the Top

Borna KolbadiJun 1, 2018

Before the Calciopoli, Juventus were feared by every team in the world. Filled with many national team captains and champions, they were also very organised. Fabio Capello once said, "Coaching the 2005-2006 Juventus was like coaching robots. They did everything that I asked them to do without a single flaw."

After all that happened during that summer, most of the stars left and Juventus went down to Serie B. Now, after five years of suffering and rebuilding, they are once again starting to build a team that can compete with the best.

This summer, Marotta has already signed Pirlo, Vidal and Lichtsteiner, who are all top-class, and more signings are said to be on the way.

Buffon, Krasic, Matri, Pirlo, Vidal, Chiellini and Lichtsteiner are all proven players with class, and if they are teamed up with players of their level, they could be part of a team of greats. I chose a 4-2-3-1 formation and filled in the positions that were without world-class players.

In this slideshow, we'll look at four players that could complete Juventus' puzzle. I tried to keep the players I chose realistic, and I also tried to choose the Italians over other nationalities (even though there is only one Italian).

Center Back

1 of 4

NAME: Mats Julian Hummels

AGE: 22

NATIONALITY: German

Why?

Giorgio Chiellini, 26, has always been a top-class defender. However, Juventus has conceded so many goals because Chiellini has not been able to pair up a player that completes Giorgio.

Chiellini plays with muscle and heart but is not a great reader of the game. Hummels offers great reading of the game and also is very calm on the ball. Another advantage to signing the German is that he has experience playing the 4-2-3-1 with Dortmund and therefore would be familiar to the system.

The partnership between Chiellini and Hummels would be one of the best in the world and would last Juventus for many years to come.

Left Back

2 of 4

NAME: Juan Manuel Vargas Risco

AGE: 27

NATIONALITY: Peruvian

TEAM: Fiorentina

Castrol Ranking: 945

Why?

Left back has been a weak link for Juventus for years, and even though De Ceglie and Ziegler are both good players, they are not top-class. Vargas has been performing at a very high level since his Catania days, and whether he is used as a left back or further forward, he has always been great at defending and attacking.

The Peruvian is a great tackler and has the pace and stamina to mark the best wingers in the world. He can also contribute in the attacking moves with his accurate crossing and long shots.

Second Striker

3 of 4

NAME: Giuseppe Rossi

AGE: 24

NATIONALITY: Italian

TEAM: Villarreal

Castrol Ranking: 58

Why?

As much as I love Alessandro Del Piero, he is not getting any younger and Juventus need a player that can replace him for the future. Many players can play this position but Rossi, being Italian, is the only player that has similar characteristics to our beloved captain. Although he is not a free kick specialist, Rossi is extremely gifted in the technical area and is also great at finishing.

Last season, Rossi scored 32 goals and assisted his teammates nine times in all competitions, while being involved in many other goals. This proves he has matured enough to contribute many goals and assists to this great team.

Left Winger

4 of 4

NAME: Marko Marin

AGE: 22

NATIONALITY: German

Castrol Ranking: 507

Why?

Juventus have no left wingers and need to sign a player that would be able to perform at the level of the great Pavel Nedved. Marin is not yet mature enough to be even close to Nedved's level, but he is extremely young and has been great in the past two seasons for Bremen.

The German is extremely fast with the ball and has the ability to beat defenders and provide the killer pass. He is also very good at crossing the ball and has a great touch on the ball.

Having Marin and Krasic on the wings would strike fear into any defender since both players are extremely fast, and each have a knack for scoring important goals.
