Liverpool Transfer Rumours: The 7 Most Ludicrous Gossip Stories of the Last Week
The combination of Dalglish and Co. instituting the "Liverpool Way" for transfer dealings and Liverpool fans desperate for bits of transfer information has forced journalists to produce crazy transfer rumours in this transfer window.
This past week alone contains a few of these fabricated rumors, but these seven were the most entertaining.
Marcell Jansen to Solve Liverpool's Left-Back Problem
1 of 7Jansen is a great player, but this rumour came directly from lazy journalism.
The formula: Liverpool need a quality left-back plus Jansen is an establish international who could come at a good value equals Liverpool to buy Jansen.
However, Jansen has been frequently injured over the past few seasons and often plays as a left winger. With the signing of Stewart Downing, Liverpool are not looking to sign a left wing-back but rather a left-back with to mainly operate as a defender.
I would actually be really happy if Liverpool bought a healthy Jansen, but after everything that has happened with Alberto Aquilani, I doubt the club is looking to buy any player with potential injury issues.
Liverpool to Sign Mariano Pavone
2 of 7I must admit I had no idea who Mariano Pavone was when I read about him nearing a move to Swansea City.
The part that really stood out in the article was that Pavone was "heavily linked" to Liverpool, Fulham and Blackburn.
After reading this, I quickly researched the Argentine and soon afterwards realized the story was completely made up. Pavone is 29 years old. That puts all rumours to rest.
Liverpool in for Sebastien Bassong?
3 of 7Bassong had a promising first season at Tottenham after moving from Newcastle, but he struggled to get into the team this past season. Regardless, Bassong has not lived up to his hefty price tag.
He is talented, but he will struggle to get into Tottenham's defense. For this reason, Bassong is likely to leave Tottenham, but it is unlikely he will move to Liverpool.
Liverpool is looking for a young starting defender who can provide consistency for at least the next five years, and Bassong is not the defender to do that.
Sunderland's Lee Cattermole to Liverpool
4 of 7The article highlights how even Sunderland manager, Steve Bruce, has no idea how the idea of Lee Cattermole heading to Liverpool came about.
This transfer just does not make any sense.
Liverpool already have a starting defensive midfielder in Lucas, and with the countless number of midfielders already there, it seems crazy to add another.
It does not make sense for Cattermole either. This transfer would only hamper his progress because he would not get regular playing time.
You'll Never Walk Alone, Robin van Persie
5 of 7This rumour has yet to surface, but I am ending it before it gets a chance.
There is a clip of the Arsenal striker singing You'll Never Walk Alone around a bunch of fans. It seems crazy that he would ever sing Liverpool's most important song.
Whatever his reason, I doubt Robin van Persie will move to Anfield this summer (or ever). He would be an amazing signing, but with Luis Suarez and Andy Carroll already playing as forwards, playing time would be an issue.
Liverpool Will Sign Hugo Rodallega
6 of 7A lot of reports are going around about Liverpool signing Wigan's Hugo Rodallega. Rodallega is a quality striker, but why would he want to go from being the main guy to a backup?
This rumor just seems strange.
Granted, Rodallega has some room for development. He just recently turned 26 years old, so I cannot see Liverpool buying him as one for the future.
With the likes of Andy Carroll, Luis Suarez, Dirk Kuyt and potentially David N'Gog all vying for playing time, it is just tough to see Liverpool pursuing another striker who is expecting to get a good amount of playing time.
Finally, Lucas Leaving Liverpool
7 of 7This is easily the most ridiculous rumor (source is s*n, so if you don't feel comfortable visiting its website then don't) I have read in quite awhile. It is right up there with Liverpool signing Sergio Aguero, Neymar and Eden Hazard.
Lucas was the heart and soul of the Liverpool squad last season. Add to that his great tackling ability and his solidified place in Brazil's national team and it seems crazy that Liverpool would be looking to sell him.
He is also one of Liverpool's only defensive midfielders, so of course he will get plenty of playing time. I understand that Liverpool have a lot of midfielders, but Lucas will be one of the first names on the team sheet.
The best part of this rumor is that Lucas tweeted how much he is looking forward to the new season at Liverpool soon after this rumor surfaced.
