Copa America 2011 Results Recap Argentina's Disappointing Tournament Thus Far

Argentina opened their 2011 Copa America with consecutive draws against Bolivia and Colombia. Argentina played to a 1-1 draw in their opening match after netting a late equalizer.

Against the Colombians, Argentina failed to score a goal but played solid defense and held the Colombians scoreless as well.

Argentina was expecting to have at least four points and likely had their eyes set on having six points at this stage of the competition.

With two points, Argentina is currently in second place, but Bolivia and Costa Rica have yet to win their second game. The worst case scenario for Argentina would be the Bolivians winning by multiple goals and then drawing Colombia in the next match, which would mean Argentina could win the group or finish third in the group, depending on goal differential.

Either way, Argentina was hoping to be in control of the group at this point and not in need of a victory in their last game. In all likelihood, Argentina will be in a win or go home mode against a far inferior Costa Rica side.

Argentina has already played the two toughest teams in the group already, so they do have an advantage there, but needing a victory in the final match is not the situation they would have expected.

Lionel Messi and Carlos Tevez have not lived up to their expectations and have not created any goals between the two. Messi needs to start creating more and Tevez needs to finish when he has the chance.

Argentina certainly had their scoring chances against Colombia but failed to convert. They cannot afford to continue playing that way and they will not last much longer if they continue to miss their chances.

They are one of the most talented teams in the world and should feel disgraced with the way they are playing.

Only time will tell if they can turn things around and get a win when it matters most against Costa Rica.
