Real Madrid Bans Barcelona WAG Shakira: Soccer Rivalries Go Deep

We all know Real Madrid and Barcelona are locked in constant battle and share arguably the greatest sporting rivalry on the planet.

Well, it just went one step further.

How much does Real Madrid hate Barcelona? The club has just announced that any song by Shakira is from this point banned from being played in the Santiago Bernabeu.

What does this have to do with Barcelona?

A lot, actually. The reports in Spanish dailies Marca and AS suggest that the ban has come because of Shakira's relationship with Barcelona defender Gerard Pique.

Shakira officially announced her relationship with the World Cup champion on Tuesday, via a picture on Twitter with the caption: "I present to you my sunshine."

The funniest part of this whole situation is that the international superstar singer is actually a Real Madrid fan at heart. Florentino Perez even presented a No. 5 Galacticos jersey to the Colombian a few years ago.

Real Madrid and Barcelona are set to do battle quite a bit this spring.

The two meet in their final league derby of the season on April 17, followed by the Copa del Rey Final on April 20.

Should they both pass the quarterfinals of the UEFA Champions League, they will again meet in the first and second leg of the semifinals on April 27 and May 3.

Spain is going to be buzzing for the next month or so as the two proudest clubs do epic battle—but you won't be hearing the sound of "Waka Waka" around the stands of the Bernabeu.

It just goes to show you how far people are willing to go for the sake of a rivalry.
