Luis Nani: Why the Winger Has Been the EPL Player of the Season So Far

Each week I hear commentators, pundits and bloggers go goo-goo ga-ga over Gareth Bale and Samir Nasri, while I heard a pundit yesterday say: “Nani has to do more for me, far too inconsistent”….I’m sorry, but the lad scored 10 goals and made 21 assists in the 2010 which for a winger is outstanding.

Nani has scored 6 goals and made 11 assists in the Premiership this season from 16 appearances that means he has a rate of 1.0625 when it comes to creating or scoring a goal.

Gareth Bale has scored 7 goals and made 1 assist in the Premiership this season from 20 appearances that means he has a rate of 0.4 when it comes to creating or scoring a goal. Much less than Nani.

Samir Nasri has scored 9 goals and made 1 assist in the Premiership this season from 17 appearances that means he has a rate of 0.5882 when it comes to creating or scoring a goal. Better than Gareth Bale, but still barely over half of what Nani has contributed.

So why is it that Nani keeps getting overlooked?

Statistics tell you that he has been by far the most effective player in the Barclays Premiership this season and has done a lot lot more than Gareth Bale and Samir Nasri and in less appearances too I might add!

Personally I believe Nani won’t be mentioned in PFA players of the year until he has one outstanding performance against someone. Gareth Bale wouldn't be mentioned as much as he has been if hadn't had played so well against Inter Milan I’ve seen a lot of Tottenham this year and a majority of time Gareth Bale has done nothing. However, every so often he has an outstanding game i.e Stoke, Blackburn.

Same goes for Samir Nasri, against United and City tonight he did nothing. However, he has standout games against the likes of Fulham, Villa etc… which have created the Samir Nasri bandwagon.

Nani however, has been consistently (yes I did just put Nani and consistent in the same sentence) good maybe not a 9 or 10, but always a 7-8 which have hid him from the media highlight. Their has been one pundit who has seen how well Nani has been playing and that is Tony Gale, sadly he seems to be the only one!

Now I’m not saying Gareth Bale and Samir Nasri haven’t been good, they’ve been very good at times this season I would love to see them playing at Old Trafford for the Reds. Well I would love to see Nasri at OT not so much that snood he wears!

If Nani is not among the nominees for PFA player of year at the end of the season then something is very wrong in the world. Mind you, it may be better if he is continually shunned from the media spotlightkeep those greedy mugs over at Madrid away from him!
