Arsenal News: Will Emir Spahić Be the Next Big Thing for Gunners?
If reports are to be believed, then Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is on the move to sign a deal to bring the 29-year-old defender Emir Spahić . According to Sky Sports, Spahić, who currently plays for Montpellier, is one of the top list targets for Wenger's defensive reinforcements.
Wenger is busy in adding new strengths to his defense as he saw three of his players, Sol Campbell, William Gallas, and Mikael Silvestre, all leave this summer and thus the defensive crisis of Arsenal is up loud and clear.
The addition of the only player on defense was 24-year-old Laurent Koscielny, which is a good gamble from Wenger, if he can make it a hit like Vermaelen, but he cannot rely on just that and needs experienced guns to guard his fort.

The deal with Phil Jagielka also did not work out for Wenger, and as he is looking for cheaper options, so comes his radar on the Bosnian captain who can provide some good cover to the fragile defense.
Spahić, at 29, may be too old an option according to many fans, but the Bosnian international, at six feet tall, is not only good in tackles but also is good in the air, which adds to his scoring abilities often.
Spahić has good control over the ball, can provide a wide range of back cover, and also can fill in as a left back when required. He has impressed Wenger and others with his eye-catching performances in the Cup playoffs for Bosnia.
While Wenger is also on the lookout for other players, like Per Mertesacker or Gary Cahill, Spahić will cost much less than the other targets for Wenger, in the range of around six or seven million dollars.
It is highly doubtful that Wenger will go for a high-priced transfer, though since he is not cash-strapped, high possibilities are there on signing the Bosnian star for Arsenal this summer.
