FIFA World Cup: Diego Maradona To Make Changes To Argentina Line Up vs. Greece
Diego Maradona's Argentina team has been the in-form side of the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa has seen many big guns such as England, France, Italy, Spain, and Germany all stumble out of the gates.
Although the former Napoli and Barcelona star will be keen to finish the preliminary round perfectly with a victory over Greece, Maradona seems set to rest some key men before the Round of 16 as Argentina have all but been ensured qualification to the next phase.
Sergio Romero, who has only had to make two saves in two games, will remain in goal while the young Nicolas Otamendi will replace the suspended Jonas Gutierrez at rightback.
Otamendi was expected to be a starter before Argentina arrived in South Africa, but Maradona has opted for a more attacking approach in the early going, and now the Velez Sarsfield man will finally make his World Cup debut in the third match.
Nicolas Burdisso will join Martin Demichelis in central defense as Walter Samuel will be rested after picking up a minor injury against South Korea.
Although Samuel is most likely fit, Maradona will not risk the Inter star, instead choosing to give a run out to Burdisso who was impressive after replacing Samuel on Thursday.
Clemente Rodriguez will replace Gabriel Heinze at left back as the Marseille man will not be risked for fear of accumulating another yellow card, which would result in suspension.
In midfield, Mario Bolatti will replace captain Javier Mascherano, another player who is on a yellow card, while Juan Sebastian Veron returns to the first team after recovering from an injury that kept him out of the game in Soccer City agains the Koreans.
Maxi Rodriguez looks set to move from the right flank to the left as Angel Di Maria looks to be headed to the bench after a surprisingly quiet couple of games.
Lionel Messi will remain in the side as Maradona will hope his star man can get on the score sheet after coming agonizingly close in his first two outings.
Hat-trick hero Gonzalo Higuain will surprisingly head to the bench, but his replacement is Champions League Final hero Diego Milito who will state his claim for a starting position.
Sergio "El Kun" Aguero will also start his first game of the tournament after a brilliant cameo against the Koreans in which he assisted Higuain's third before nearly scoring a wonder goal in the dying seconds.
Making way for Aguero is Carlos Tevez, who has been effective but continues to struggle in finding shooting boots for his country as his record now sits at just nine goals in 56 games.
Aguero, who has seemed to have a telepathic understanding with Messi during the final 15 minutes of the victory of the Koreans, will hope a solid performance can wrestling the starting position away from Tevez.
Javier Pastore is likely to replace Messi in the second half in order to get the young playmaker minutes should he be needed later in the tournament, while it is also expected that Boca Juniors legend Martin Palermo will make his World Cup debut at the age of 36 at some point in the second half.
