Golden Shoe 2016-17: Top Goalscorers in Europe, Latest Points on Dec. 19
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang added to his tally in the race for the European Golden Shoe as he netted in Borussia Dortmund's 2-2 draw with TSG Hoffenheim, but there was plenty of movement behind him over the weekend in the standings.
Diego Costa, Edinson Cavani and Lionel Messi all found the net once apiece for Chelsea, Paris Saint-Germain and Barcelona, respectively, while Luis Suarez and Zlatan Ibrahimovic each bagged a brace to move up the leaderboard as well.
Here are the standings as of December 19:

| 2 | Diego Costa | Chelsea | 13 x 2.0 | 26.0 |

Every league in Europe is assigned a difficulty constant between one and two, which is then multiplied with the number of goals a player has scored to calculate their points tally.
As such, goals scored by Costa or Messi in the Premier League or La Liga are doubled, while Ligue 1's difficulty factor is only 1.5 and as such Cavani's goals are worth less.
Costa Leads Premier League Charge Ahead of Sanchez and Ibrahimovic
Costa became the division's leading goalscorer for the season when he netted the decisive goal in Chelsea's 1-0 win over Crystal Palace on Saturday, with Alexis Sanchez having to settle for an assist as Arsenal slipped to a 2-1 defeat to Manchester City the following day.
The Spain striker found the net with his head shortly before half-time as he outjumped Scott Dann to convert Cesar Azpilicueta's cross.
Squawka Football shared a snapshot of the goal and noted the contrast in Costa's form when compared with last year:

The forward has been revitalised under head coach Antonio Conte and looks set to continue adding to his tally in the coming weeks, though he won't be able to on Boxing Day against Bournemouth as he picked up his fifth booking of the campaign and will be suspended.
Meanwhile, Ibrahimovic found the net after just five minutes as he led United to a 2-0 win over West Bromwich Albion on Saturday, heading home Jesse Lingard's cross.
The Swede scored again 51 minutes later courtesy of a helpful deflection from Craig Dawson, capping another strong performance in his excellent run of form.
Hesham Bilal-Hafiz of the Manchester Evening News and NBC's Roger Bennett reflected on Ibrahimovic's impressive exploits:
He has an excellent chance of finding the net again on Boxing Day at home to Sunderland—who have shipped 28 goals this term—while Sanchez will also have the opportunity to steal a march on Costa if he can help Arsenal bounce back from their slump against West Brom.
Barcelona Duo Take Advantage of Ronaldo's Absence
With Cristiano Ronaldo's Real Madrid taking part in the FIFA Club World Cup, Messi and Suarez took it upon themselves to move clear of him in La Liga's goalscorer's charts—they took their totals to 12 apiece, while the Portugal star has 10.
The pair fired the Blaugrana to a 4-1 win over Espanyol on Sunday. Suarez opened the scoring after 18 minutes with a composed finish after racing on to an excellent ball over the top, per Sky Sports La Liga:
He had his brace when he tapped in a rebound in the 67th minute after Messi had effortlessly danced through the visitors' defence.
Jordi Alba made it three a minute later before David Lopez pulled one back, and Messi completed the scoring in the 90th minute when he poked home Suarez's delightful lofted through ball.
Suarez might have scored twice, but it was the Argentinian who got the most plaudits for a sensational outing, per Spanish football journalists Dermot Corrigan and Alexandra Jonson:
The pair won't play again in La Liga until January 8 because of Spain's winter break, but the pair signed off 2016 in style.
They may lose ground in the coming weeks, but they'll be in contention to take home the Golden Shoe come the end of the season.
