Recap

Athletic had a strong penalty shout denied in the opening minutes after Aduriz was brought down by both Pedro Bigas and David Garcia simultaneously—the first of several questionable refereeing decisions on the night from Alfonso Alvarez.

Boateng opened the scoring after 39 minutes when he tapped home Michel Macedo's low cross from the right. BeIN Sports' David Cartlidge was impressed with Las Palmas:

Just five minutes into the second half, Momo doubled the hosts' lead when he completed a rapid counter-attack, racing onto a delightful through ball from Tana—who later saw a backheel rebound off the postand slotting home.

Aduriz was sent off in the 74th minute. He was booked following an aerial challenge and then immediately handed another yellow card for dissent when he protested the decision.

Referee Alvarez caused further controversy five minutes later, this time in Los Leones' favour, when he awarded them a penalty for handball against Macedo, the ball having been fired onto his shoulder from close range.

Raul Garcia dispatched the spot-kick, but Jonathan Viera ended any hopes of an equaliser when he beat Kepa Arrizabalaga with a sublime lob from distance on the break in the 90th minute.

BeIN Sports' Ryan Catanese praised the hosts, while OptaJose supplied an impressive stat about their home form:

It was, however, just their second win in their last nine games in La Liga. In their next outing they travel to Alaves, and they'll hope to use the win as a springboard to another three points.

As for Athletic, they'll host Eibar but will face them without Aduriz or Garcia, who will both miss the game through suspension.
