Manchester City drew level on points with Premier League leaders Liverpool as Yaya Toure scored a brace in his first appearance of the season to see the Sky Blues to a 2-1 win at Crystal Palace on Saturday.
Jurgen Klopp's Reds were frustrated by a resolute Southampton side as they could only earn a 0-0 draw at St. Mary's despite dominating the match.
In the day's early kick-off, Arsenal snatched a late point against Manchester United despite a below-par performance, Olivier Giroud's header cancelling out Juan Mata's excellent second-half strike at Old Trafford.

Saturday Recap
Toure made his first Premier League appearance since April against Palace, and it was a truly triumphant return.
A spat between the Ivorian, his agent and City manager Pep Guardiola looked to have ended Toure's Etihad Stadium career for good, but he proved at Selhurst Park that he still has much to offer.
The 33-year-old opened the scoring as half-time approached after combining with Nolito, only for a Connor Wickham goal to put Palace back level in the 66th minute.
However, Toure was then on hand to net his second of the game, the winner, seven minutes from time as he converted a close-range chance from Kevin De Bruyne's corner.
A win for Arsenal at Old Trafford on Saturday would have put them level on points with City and Liverpool at the top of the table but, in truth, they were fortunate to take anything from the match.
Giroud's brilliant header fromĀ Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain's cross in the 89th minute was the Gunners' only shot on target all game, and Arsene Wenger's side were surprisinglyĀ poor:
Jose Mourinho's United, on the other hand, looked good for much of the match, and Mata's fine finish in the 68th minute looked to have earned the hosts all three points before the late drama.
The Red Devils had further reason to feel aggrieved after they were denied what seemed a clear penalty in the first half when Antonio Valencia fell in the area under a challenge from Nacho Monreal, per football writer Sam Pilger:
Liverpool were another side who arguably deserved a win on Saturday, but they were let down by some wasteful finishing against Southampton at St. Mary's.
Claude Puel's side set up to frustrate Liverpool's potent attack, and they were largely successful.
The Reds had their chances, but two excellent Fraser Forster saves combined with wasteful efforts from Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino and Nathaniel Clyne to keep the game goalless.
Tottenham Hotspur earned a valuable 3-2 win at home to West Ham United, but only after Harry Kane's heroics prevented them falling to a first league defeat of the season.

The Hammers looked to be heading for an impressive victory with just a minute to go as they led 2-1,Ā Manuel Lanzini having put West Ham ahead again after 20-year-oldĀ Harry Winks cancelled outĀ Michail Antonio's opener.
But Kane turned in an equaliser from close range in the 89th minute and then netted emphatically from the spot in stoppage time after Son Heung-Min was felled in the box.Ā Ā
Sunderland moved off the bottom of the table after claiming a second victory in as many games at home to fellow strugglers Hull.
Along with Defoe's opener,Ā Victor Anichebe's double made it a comfortable day for David Moyes' side.
For the veteran English striker, it was yet another milestone reached, per Squawka:
Swansea City are now the side propping up the rest of the teams in the Premier League after Bob Bradley was denied his first win as the club's manager by a late equaliser from Everton's Seamus Coleman.
Gylfi Sigurdsson had put the visitors ahead at Goodison Park from the penalty spot in the 41st minute, but the Swans were unable to hold out for all three points, Coleman heading home a minute from time.
Swansea have now not claimed a win in 11 matches in all competitions.
Defending Premier League champions Leicester City fell to 15th after a 2-1 defeat to Watford,Ā Etienne Capoue andĀ Roberto Pereyra's goals in the opening 12 minutes proving enough for the Hornets despiteĀ Riyad Mahrez's 15th-minute penalty.
Meanwhile, Bournemouth got back to winning ways after defeat last time out to Sunderland,Ā Nathan Ake's 26th-minute goal earning the Cherries their first away win of the season atĀ the bet365 Stadium.
