Gianni VerschuerenNov 1, 2016

Sunderland manager David Moyes has been suspended and fined after admitting to a charge of misconduct for abusive language toward an official by the Football Association. The incident took place toward the end of the team's EFL Cup match against Southampton.

Per the FA's official website, Moyes will be suspended for a single match, against Bournemouth, and fined £8,000.

Sunderland lost the EFL Cup clash 1-0 and are currently the only winless team remaining in the Premier League.

The former Manchester United manager has guided the Black Cats to their worst start to the season in years, and their lack of form has hit him hard, as shared by Squawka News:

Miguel Delaney of Eurosport also weighed in, noting this isn't how Moyes' career should have played out after a promising start:

He started his managerial career with then-Second Division Preston North End and nearly took the club all the way to the Premier League before accepting a job at Everton. He spent more than a decade with the Toffees and was eventually selected to be Sir Alex Ferguson's replacement at Manchester United.

His spell at Old Trafford was a disaster, however, and after one year he was sacked. He didn't fare any better at Real Sociedad. Since taking the job at Sunderland, he has only guided the side to two points in the Premier League.

This ban is but the latest setback for Moyes, who could be looking at yet another sacking if he can't turn Sunderland's form around before the holiday season.
