Tuesday Recap
The standout game of the evening looked to be Dortmund’s showdown with Madrid, and the match at the Westfalenstadion did not disappoint.
During a breathless opening period, the Guardian's Daniel Harris paid tribute to the levels being showcased by both sets of players:
The quality of Madrid was certainly on show as they swept away on the counter-attack to take the lead. There was a degree of fortune in how Gareth Bale’s flick fell into the path of Ronaldo, although the Portuguese’s emphatic finish left nothing to chance.

Dortmund were wonderful in attack, though, and they continued to probe at the Los Blancos back line. Even so, they needed a howler from Navas to get them back on terms, with Aubameyang beating Varane to the ball to prod home after the goalkeeper's weak parry.
Bleacher Report’s Rik Sharma questioned the decision of manager Zinedine Zidane to bring the Costa Rican back into the firing line for this game after a spell out injured:
Chances continued to materialise in the second period, with Madrid's Varane scoring a deserved goal due to the team's dominance after the break. The defender was fastest to react after Karim Benzema turned Ronaldo’s cross onto the post.
Ronaldo did have chances to put Madrid up 3-1, but Dortmund rallied, and when the ball dropped to Schurrle in the penalty area in the 87th minute, he arrowed a sharp left-footed shot into the roof of the net beyond Navas. These figures from OptaJose suggest that head coach Thomas Tuchel’s side deserved a point, at least:
Tottenham grabbed their first win of the 2016-17 Champions League campaign against CSKA Moscow, with Son Heung-min continuing his red-hot form in front of goal.
The South Korean eventually made Spurs’ dominance tell, as he added the finishing touches to a flowing move. Manager Mauricio Pochettino’s men were frustrated for long spells by the determined hosts, and he will be delighted with the composure his players showcased as they sought to break the deadlock.

As noted by BT Sport’s Archie Rhind-Tutt, for CSKA’s goalkeeper Igor Akinfeev, the defeat saw the extension of a terrible run in Europe’s elite competition:
In the other game from the group, a 94th minute goal from Kamil Glik saw Monaco rescue a point against Bayer Leverkusen.
The Premier League’s other representative on the night was Leicester, and they kept up their immaculate record in the tournament.

In the first Champions League match at the King Power Stadium, the English champions flew out of the traps and took a first-half lead thanks to Islam Slimani’s thumping header. There were some nervy spells in the second period, with Jesus Corona crashing a shot against the post, although the Foxes were well worth their win.
For their new goal-getter, it was a particularly sweet moment. As we can see here courtesy of Squawka Football, Slimani—formerly of Sporting CP—loves going up against Porto:
The Foxes may not have all things their own way in Group G, though, as FC Copenhagen produced a brilliant performance to beat Club Brugge 4-0.
Meanwhile, Italian champions Juventus notched their first win of this year’s competition, as they romped to a 4-0 victory against Dinamo Zagreb.
New signings Miralem Pjanic and Gonzalo Higuain got on the scoresheet for the Bianconeri in the first period before a smashing long-range strike from Paulo Dybala made the game safe. Dani Alves’ deflected strike added some gloss to the scoreline.
In the other game from Group H, Sevilla were made to work hard by a cohesive Lyon outfit, but they eventually broke through via Wissam Ben Yedder in the second period.
