EPL Week 6 Recap
Defending EPL champions Leicester City have gotten off to a slow start this season, and Manchester United took advantage of that on Saturday in a 4-1 rout.
All four of the Red Devils' goals came in the opening half, as Chris Smalling, Juan Mata, Marcus Rashford and Paul Pogba found the back of the net.
With that four-goal margin entering halftime, United accomplished something they hadn't done in 15 years, according to OptaJoe:
Demarai Gray got the Foxes on the board in the 59th minute, but the match had essentially already been decided at that point.
Per Squawka Football, Manchester United's usage of Mata may be the biggest key to their success moving forward this season:
The continued great play of Pogba will figure into that equation as well, and he was in high spirits after tallying a goal:
If United are going to get back to the top of the heap in the EPL, however, they must find a way to overtake red-hot Manchester City.
The Sky Blues continued their remarkable roll with a 3-1 away victory over Swansea City to improve to 6-0-0 and extend their first-place advantage in the standings.
Sergio Aguero got the Citizens on the board early with a goal in the ninth minute, but Swans tied it up in the 13th minute by virtue of a Fernando Llorente goal.
Aguero put Manchester City back on top with a penalty kick in the 65th minute, though, and Raheem Sterling iced the match with a 77th-minute goal of his own.
With another two goals to his credit, Aguero kept up his amazing hot streak dating back to last season:
Also, thanks to Saturday's victory, Manchester City joined some elite company by winning their first 10 games of top-flight competition this year:
Keeping pace with City this season won't be easy, but Liverpool proved on Saturday they may be a club capable of doing so.
Jurgen Klopp's side exploded for five goals in a 5-1 triumph over Hull City, with four of them coming after Ahmed Elmohamady was sent off for the Tigers in the 29th minute due to a handball.
Two of the Reds' goals came courtesy of James Milner, who has a penchant for leading his team to victory when he beats the goalkeeper:
While scoring five goals is an uncommon occurrence, the attacking outburst by Liverpool is consistent with what they have done under Klopp's leadership:
The final match of the day pitting Arsenal against Chelsea, with the Gunners looking to turn their recent misfortune against the Blues around.
They did so in emphatic fashion with a 3-0 win highlighted by first-half goals from Alexis Sanchez, Theo Walcott and Mesut Ozil, which gave them a big lead at halftime.
Sanchez's marker in the 11th minute ended a lengthy dry spell for the Gunners against Chelsea:
Arsenal and Chelsea entered the match tied in the standings, with each needing a victory to keep pace with Manchester City.
The Gunners proved they are capable of vying for a league title, while Chelsea showed they may not be past the issues that plagued them throughout a disappointing 2015-16 campaign.
