La Liga Fixtures 2016: Schedule, Live Stream and Week 6 Predictions

Tom SunderlandSep 22, 2016

Real Madrid will look to re-establish their dominance atop La Liga on Saturday when they travel to Las Palmas in Week 6 of the 2016-17 season, hoping to bounce back from Wednesday's 1-1 draw with Villarreal.

Los Merengues were left disappointed at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium after dropping their first points of the new season, although they still boast a two-point cushion coming into this weekend's fixture slate.

Barcelona, who are three points behind Real, travel to Sporting Gijon after drawing 1-1 against Atletico Madrid in midweek, while second-place Sevilla make the trip to Athletic Bilbao on Saturday.

Athletic Stump High-Flying Sevilla

Sevilla's progress under new manager Jorge Sampaoli has been swift and without pause, and Los Nervionenses are undoubtedly deserving of the three wins and two draws that sees them second in La Liga's standings.

A Gabriel Mercado goal gave the side their most recent win on Tuesday, an edgy 1-0 victory over local rivals Real Betis, and David Cartlidge of beIN Sports noted he isn't the only summer signing fitting in well:

Not only that, but Sevilla have developed a particular taste for derby victories as well, as pointed out by South American football writer Nick Dorrington:

Sampaoli's men travel to Athletic on Saturday hoping to extend that unbeaten run, but Sevilla have struggled for goals away from home in all competitions this season and have drawn all three outings away from the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan Stadium.

Seventh-placed Athletic, on the other hand, have conceded just twice in two home games this term and are capable of proving Sevilla's away form concern remains an issue for Saturday's visitors.

Prediction: Athletic Bilbao 1-1 Sevilla

Real Madrid Frustrated at Las Palmas

After going four wins from four at the season's start, Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane saw his side drop their first points of the season at home to Villarreal on Wednesday after coming from a goal down to draw 1-1.

Zidane addressed the media after that sharing of the spoils, and he admitted that a slow start came back to haunt his men, who will need more initiative in Saturday's duel at Las Palmas:

"

In the second half we could have won, but the first half obviously no. It's tough. It was a difficult game, we've put a lot of effort in, but this can happen, and it has happened. At the end of the day we've dropped two points at home, but we're not going to change the way we want to do things. In the second half we were far superior, but you can't always win it in the last minute.

"

Las Palmas, meanwhile, are looking to recover from their 4-1 dismantling at the hands of Real Sociedad, although Opta's Jamie Kemp noted that scoreline was perhaps flattering of their opponents:

The loss of the suspended Kevin-Prince Boateng will be a blow for Las Palmas, but their 100 per cent home record this season suggests they can get things back on track.

Add to that equation the fact Los Blancos may well be questioning themselves following a difficult result against Villarreal, and manager Quique Setien's side are in with a shot of taking a result from the league leaders.

Prediction: Las Palmas 2-2 Real Madrid
