Saturday Recap

Messi led his Barcelona team-mates to a simple win at Leganes on the outskirts of Madrid, as the Argentina icon scored twice for his club.

The diminutive attacker struck after 15 minutes to open the scoring and completed his brace shortly before the hour mark from the penalty spot.

Barca's usual protagonists got in on the scoring act, as Neymar and Luis Suarez both netted in the first half to kill the game off as a spectacle.

Rafinha completed the scoring for the visitors, who took the points with minimum effort.

BBC Sport highlighted the Catalans' form as they climbed to the summit of the domestic table:

Atletico finally sparked into life after an average start to the campaign, ravaging Gijon at the Calderon.

Griezmann led the charge with a finish after only two minutes on the clock, and Kevin Gameiro made it 2-0 just three minutes later.

France international Griezmann grabbed his second on the half-hour mark, and Torres completed a brace in the last 18 minutes of the game, scoring once from the penalty spot in injury time.

Diego Simeone was full of praise for his French star after the game and said he deserves to be nominated for football's biggest individual accolade, per AS:

Pedro Leon scored a penalty to give Eibar a precious point after Sevilla had taken the lead in the first half.

Luciano Vietto had given the visitors a 27th-minute advantage, but Sevilla couldn't hold on for maximum points.

Las Palmas phenomenal start continued with a slim 1-0 victory over Malaga. Momo's 10th-minute penalty fired the hosts into third.

After their 7-0 thrashing of Celtic in the UEFA Champions League, Barca have continued their goalscoring exploits on home soil.

The MSN trinity of Messi, Suarez and Neymar appears as potent as ever, and the two giants from Madrid will need to be at their best to challenge for the Primera Division crown.
