FIFA World Rankings 2016: Latest International Standings, Updated Points Totals

Rory MarsdenSep 15, 2016

Brazil have moved back into the top five in the latest FIFA world rankings after making a big jump up from ninth spot, while Gibraltar and Kosovo made history with their first World Cup qualifying matches.

Wales are back into the top 10 having moved up a spot, remaining two places ahead of England, and they are now ahead of Spain, who dropped down to 11th.

Argentina and Belgium remain the No. 1 and No. 2 sides, respectively, with Germany now third after swapping places with Colombia.

Meanwhile, Giampiero Ventura's Italy dropped three places to sit in 13th spot, one behind England.

Here is the updated top 10, per FIFA:

Bolivia were the biggest movers up the rankings this month, as they jumped 35 places to 75th following a draw with Chile and defeat of Peru in September's qualifiers for the 2018 World Cup in Russia.

Kosovo, after being accepted with Gibraltar as new members of FIFA in May, moved up 22 places to 168th thanks to their 1-1 draw with Finland in their first-ever qualifier.

The Central African Republic took the biggest dive, dropping 35 spots to 122nd having been hammered 4-1 by Congo DR.

Wales' consistency remains remarkable. Having broken into FIFA's top 10 for the first time ever just over a year ago, Chris Coleman's side enjoyed a brilliant Euro 2016 and beat Moldova 4-0 earlier this month.

BBC Wales Sport's Owain Llyr put Wales' continuing excellence into perspective:

England's last-gasp qualifying win over Slovakia under new manager Sam Allardyce at the beginning of September saw them up one spot into 12th, while Italy's 3-1 friendly defeat to France did not help their cause and saw them drop three places to 13th.

Two below Italy lie Mexico in 15th—having dropped one place—and the United States moved up four spots into 22nd.

Brazil claimed two excellent World Cup qualifying victories over Colombia and Ecuador in September to return to the top five of FIFA's rankings.

The Selecao will look to claim more victories and more ranking points in their pair of matches next month—against Bolivia and Venezuela—with FIFA releasing their next update to the standings on October 20.
