Manchester City vs. Borussia Monchengladbach Champions League Match Postponed
Manchester City's opening UEFA Champions League group-stage match of the 2016-17 season against Borussia Monchengladbach has been postponed at the Etihad Stadium due to heavy rain.
The Sky Blues announced that Tuesday's match would not go ahead on their Twitter feed:
Per James Ducker of the Telegraph, the match will be played at 7:45 p.m. on Wednesday.
City relayed video footage of the pouring rain at their stadium, while also providing the lineup manager Pep Guardiola had picked to take on the Bundesliga club:
The Associated Press' Rob Harris reported that the rescheduled fixture could be played as early as Wednesday:
However, with both City and Gladbach set to play domestic league matches on Saturday, there may be some concerns about the lack of rest time between games.
Per a report by the Telegraph's Ducker and Richard Amofa, UEFA rules legislate that the rescheduled game must be played either the following day or "on a reserve date or other date set by the UEFA administration."
Though disruptive to their preparations for Saturday's Premier League clash against Bournemouth, City have the quality and depth to beat Gladbach on Wednesday and then the Cherries.
Gladbach, though, could struggle if they have to play City on Wednesday and then a tough Bundesliga clash with Werder Bremen on Saturday.
