Steven Gerrard Advises Young LA Galaxy Fan Not to Join 'Crap' Leicester City

Matt JonesSep 8, 2016

You can take Steven Gerrard out of Liverpool, but you can’t take Liverpool out of Gerrard, it would seem. That’s after the Los Angeles Galaxy midfielder and former Reds skipper was caught on camera encouraging a youngster to join his old side instead of "crap" Leicester City.

Gerrard was filmed driving a Galaxy supporter as part of a "Ridiculous Soccer Challenge," with the young fan asking him a host of testing questions about matters on and off the pitch.

When the veteran turned the tables and quizzed his passenger on his own ambitions, he was surprised to hear he was keen to move to the Premier League champions.

"Leicester?! Why? What about Liverpool?" the 36-year-old jokingly said. "Or Barcelona, or Real Madrid, don't go to Leicester, they're crap!"

Here’s a look at the clip in full:

It’s a measure of just how much the Foxes have captured the imagination of football fans around the world following their sensational Premier League triumph last season under Claudio Ranieri.

So while the likes of Liverpool are a massive name to a different generation of supporter, for a younger demographic the likes of Jamie Vardy and Riyad Mahrez have triggered a sizeable increase in the support for the Foxes, even if their honours list doesn’t match up to the established juggernauts of the game.

Nevertheless, after spending 17 years in the senior side at Anfield, you wouldn’t expect anything other than for Gerrard to fight the corner of the 18-time English champions.
