Barclays Under-21 Premier League 2015 Table: March 10 Scores and Standings

Tom SunderlandMar 10, 2015

Radamel Falcao's stuttering form in front of goal continued as the Colombian couldn't lead the Manchester United under-21s to victory over their Tottenham Hotspur counterparts on Tuesday evening.

The misfiring Colombian started for the Red Devils' youth side but still couldn't manage to inspire as the Division 1 leaders were held to a 1-1 draw at home by their North London guests.

Meanwhile, Arsenal's hopes of winning promotion from Division 2 suffered another setback thanks to their 1-0 defeat at the hands of Derby County, who move within two points of second-tier leaders Middlesbrough.

Recap

It's all gone awry for Falcao in United's senior ranks of late. Just a day after he sat on Louis van Gaal's bench as an unused substitute in their FA Cup defeat to Arsenal, the striker was starting for the under-21s.

One might think this would be one arena in which the on-loan forward could thrive and find some good footing in English football, but as David Lynch of the Manchester Evening News attested, it just didn't go his way against Spurs:

Instead, it was right-back Rafael who saved the Red Devils' blushes, with the hosts having fell behind to a Kenny McEvoy strike in the first half.

Rafael's left-footed lob showed a superb bit of ingenuity from the Brazilian and led the Full Time Devils to discuss whether his performance might even be enough to take Antonio Valencia's spot in the first team:

Spurs will be pleased with the work of 17-year-old Cameron Carter-Vickers, who did his part in central defence to hold a steady line against such esteemed opposition in fearsome territory.

Falcao played 72 minutes before being substituted off to the sound of ironic cheers. Lynch again pointed out the South American's clumsiness before his withdrawal:

Spurs remain level on points with United following Tuesday's result, but the capital club have played one game fewer than the Red Devils, who are once again at risk of losing their place at the summit after dropping points.

Arsenal's aspirations took a more substantial hit on Tuesday as they slumped to a 1-0 defeat at Derby County. January signing Krystian Bielik played his first game for the under-21s but couldn't prevent the Gunners slipping to a loss:

Ivan Calero was the hero for the hosts and capitalised upon the Gunners' inability to clear a second-half corner, sweeping in from six yards.

The youngster took to his personal Twitter account following the result to praise his team for their performance:

Other Arsenal starlets starting alongside Bielik were Chuba Akpom, who wore the captain's armband, and Gedion Zelalem, who made surges in Arsene Wenger's pre-season squad last summer.

Even with the Rams' victory, Boro hold a two-point advantage at the top of the table, while Arsenal remain in fifth, although they have played two games fewer than the league leaders.

That being said, Arsenal sit eight points off the top and would need to win both their games in hand to revive their hopes of winning Division 2 and gaining promotion back to the top flight.
