Barcelona 6-1 Getafe: Why Blowout Win Was Much-Needed for Barcelona

0 of 3

Barcelona dominated in every aspect early Sunday afternoon when they demolished Getafe by a score of 6-1. But the win was bigger than it appears.

The season has been very successful for Barcelona and victories look to be guaranteed for the Catalans. But that has not been true lately. In fact, the victory over Getafe will prove to be a huge one for La Blaugrana.

In this article we will look at the top reasons why the blowout win was needed for Barcelona and how it will affect their season going forward.

Rotation Was Desperately Needed

Barcelona is a very tired team. With so many big games being played, La Blaugrana has fielded basically the same lineup for a few weeks now. It was very important for Barcelona to add rotation against Getafe and rest some important players.

Sergio Busquets and Cesc Fábregas both received the day off which will prove vital. They have played so much recently that their fatigue has been very evident. But they were not the only ones to rest.

Dani Alves also got a break for the first half of the encounter and looked very fresh when he came on. Though Carles Puyol left the game in the second half, he still did not play the full game which could prove useful.

But despite some stars getting a rest, it was also important for Barcelona players to see some valuable minutes.

David Villa, Thiago and Cristian Tello all saw the pitch and have been the most deserving of all the second-string performers. Villa and Tello both scored and Thiago assisted a goal which only shows that Barcelona is very deep.

The Victory Brings an End to a String of Disappointing Results

Despite having a brilliant season to this point, the results for Barcelona have not been very satisfying. Demolishing Getafe was just the performance needed to get back on track.

In the last few weeks, Barcelona has not had the best of luck with results. La Blaugrana drew to Malaga, Real Madrid and Valencia. The Catalans also lost their first game of La Liga against Real Sociedad.

Though these games have not really hurt Barcelona’s season, they were not the desired outcomes for sure.

With such a big win against Getafe, the Catalans showed that they are still on the right track. The last few weeks began to test Barcelona, but they are now ready to get back on the right track and push for a treble.

Barcelona Gained Huge Confidence with Big Games Ahead

There is no denying that the most difficult part of Barcelona’s season is rapidly approaching. The Catalans face a brutal test in the next few weeks and such a big win against Getafe will give them the confidence needed entering bigger encounters.

The Champions League begins again for Barcelona in just over a week with AC Milan waiting. But a Copa del Rey match with Real Madrid is also not too far away and will be huge after a dismal 1-1 draw in the first match.

Barcelona absolutely needed a confidence boost before these giant matches began. But Barcelona received more than merely raised confidence.

La Blaugrana scored six goals against Getafe all by different players. The game was very well rounded and Barcelona proved to themselves, again, that they are the best team in the world.

With everyone firing on all cylinders, the treble is becoming a real possibility. This Barcelona side is dangerous, and Getafe witnessed that first hand.
