POST-MATCH ANALYSIS:
A stunning night of Capital One Cup football. Di Matteo indicated he wanted to win with a strong lineup, and his side delivered. Early mistakes were overcome by real quality. The introduction of Hazard and Oscar alongside Mata made the difference.
How will the trio's legs cope on the weekend? It's been a hectic week for many of Chelsea's starting 11.
United's youngsters should be proud of their performance. Wooton and Keane played well until the latter stages. Inexperience eventually cost Sir Alex's side. The United boss won't be too disheartened with the result.
Chelsea muster a smidgen of revenge on their visitors. Another absolute classic between two Premier League behemoths.
FULL TIME! Hazard hits the post just before the final whistle goes. Phew!
120' (E.T.)—GOAL FOR UNITED! Giggs converts with TWO ADDED MINUTES TO BE PLAYED.
119' (E.T.)—PENALTY FOR UNITED! Hernandez is squashed by Azpilicueta.
117' (E.T.)—YELLOW CARD! Giggs makes a poor challenge on Moses.
115' (E.T.)—GOAL FOR CHELSEA! Chelsea's superstars show their worth. Hazard does excellent down the left and plays a quality ball into Ramires. He rounds Lindegaard to seal the win.
114' (E.T.)—YELLOW CARD! Ramires is late on Nick Powell.
112' (E.T.)—CHANCE! Lindegaard gets a vital leg to Moses' shot. That should have been a goal from the winger, he had plenty of room to make the net bulge.
110' (E.T.)—WASTEFUL! Tunnicliffe spoons a volley into the crowd.
Passes aren't coming together for United. The experienced players needs to make a difference now.
109' (E.T.)—Sturridge once again finds room to curl a left footed shot. He hits Row Z.
108' (E.T.)—United fans are in good voice here. They've witnessed a decent display from an inexperienced team. Mistakes looks to have swung this one though.
106' (E.T.)—CLOSE! Moses works hard to keep the ball. Sturridge finds space and curls a decent strike over.
Can United muster a comeback? It looks unlikely right now, but you can't rule anything out in this competition.
105' (E.T.)—And we're back for more. 15 minutes left in this thrilling encounter.
HALF TIME IN EXTRA TIME
104'' (E.T.)—OFF THE BAR! Keane very close to getting a red card. He pulled down Sturridge and was nearly the last man. Yellow card for his efforts.
Luiz smashes the resulting free kick straight into Lindegaard's bar.
99'' (E.T.)—YELLOW CARDS! Nani and Oscar clash in the worst brawl ever seen. Both players booked.
96' (E.T.)—GOAL FOR CHELSEA! Huge mistake from Wooton! He heads the ball into the ground and straight into the path of Sturridge, who rounds Lindegaard for an easy goal.
MAN UNTIED SUB: Macheda on for Welbeck.
94' (E.T.)—Chelsea are full of life. United's legs look to have gone. Welbeck is falling all over the place and is likely to be subbed soon.
92' (E.T.)—Sturridge has an opportunity to square the ball for Mata. Instead he takes on a shot from an unlikely angle. Wrong decision.
Rafael gets forward and loops a shot into Cech's gloves.
91' (E.T.)—United looking ragged now. Chelsea's stronger lineup is coming to the fore.
We're going to extra time after an amazing match. Both sides have made huge mistakes throughout. Chelsea's have come through sloppiness, United's through inexperience.
The home side will be favourites going into the added period. Who said The Capital One Cup wasn't worth watching, eh?
90+4'—GOAL FOR CHELSEA! Hazard scores the penalty. Ridiculous stuff here!
90+3'—PENALTY FOR CHELSEA! Last chance to score as Wooton fouls Ramires.
90+1'—YELLOW CARD! Hernandez does brilliantly to hold the ball up. Luiz cuts him down.
