Shakira and Barcelona's Gerard Pique Happily Announce Pregnancy

Take out your respective cigars, real and virtual, and light them up. We have a sports baby to celebrate by way of superstar Shakira and Barcelona stalwart Gerard Pique.

A tip of the virtual hat to Big Lead Sports for spotting the tremendous news.

The Catalan defender has been dating the Colombian-born pop star for almost two years, and are proud to announce a baby is on the way.

Here is some of what Shakira had to say by way of her website:

As some of you may know, Gerard and I are very happy awaiting the arrival of our first baby! At this time we have decided to give priority to this unique moment in our lives and postpone all the promotional activities planned over the next few days.

This means I will not be able to be a part of the iHeartRadio Music Festival, but I’m sure this weekend in Las Vegas will be spectacular and I will be closely following everything that happens there!

"

As for Pique, he will be gearing up to take on Granada in a La Liga match this Saturday. 

The Spanish centre-back is having quite the eventful few years. His Spanish national side has been dubbed one of the greatest outfits of all time, winning the World Cup in 2010 and the Euro Championship just this past year.

As Big Lead Sports reminds us, Pique has enjoyed the company of one of the hottest performers on the planet throughout.

The Catalans are in control of the table with 12 points to start the La Liga campaign, and now they have a future Pique to celebrate.

It hardly gets better than this.
