Rating FC Barcelona Players in UEFA Champions League Quarterfinals 2nd Leg
FC Barcelona and AC Milan are expected to face each other in the second leg of the quarterfinals of the UEFA Champions League. The match is expected to take place at Camp Nou in Barcelona on April 3 2012.
It is expected to be a decisive one for both clubs, since the last match ended in a goalless draw. The roster is expected to change, but a decision was made to rate the Barca players.
The rating system will be from one to 10, with 10 being the highest. It is based on previous plays and how they defended themselves in the match at San Siro against AC Milan and Camp Nou against Club Atletico Bilbao.
Here is an invitation to BR readers to sit back, relax and enjoy the slideshow.
1. Lionel Messi
While Leo Messi has not been able to produce at San Siro because of the pitch, it is expected that he will deliver in this match. Messi is the equivalent of the mythological character King Midas.
King Midas touched everything and it turned to gold, while Messi kicks the ball and it leads to goals. The biggest example was the UEFA Champions League match between FC Barcelona and Bayer Leverkusen.
Messi was also able to defend himself in San Siro, although no goal was scored. He was strong in defense and offense against Club Atletico Bilbao and scored one goal during the second half of the match at Camp Nou.
Messi receives a rating of 9.9/10 for his ability to score and defend himself in San Siro.
2. Victor Valdes
Victor Valdes was the goalkeeper for the match between Barca and AC Milan at San Siro. He was present in the match between FC Barcelona and Club Atletico Bilbao.
Valdes deserves to be congratulated for resisting the pressures of the AC Milan and Club Atletico Bilbao players in the attempts of their players to score goals..
Valdes receives a rating of 9.9/10.
3. Alexis Sanchez
Alexis Sanchez was able to defend himself in the match between the two European giants at San Siro. Sanchez also conducted himself well on the pitch in spite of being fouled by Abbiati.
The referee did not see Abbiati commit the foul against Sanchez. He assisted Barca during the match against Club Atletico Bilbao at Camp Nou.
Sanchez is able to take advantage of the weakness of opponents and score goals.
Sanchez receives a rating of 9.7/10.
4. Cesc Fabregas
It is hoped that Cesc Fabregas is included in the roster for the second leg of the UCL at Camp Nou. Ever since his arrival at Camp Nou, Fabregas has been able to dominate the midfield within all sides.
He has been able to assist other Barca players in scoring goals and has discipline and tenacity. Fabregas deserves the rating of 9/10 for his efforts since arriving at Barca last summer.
5. Dani Alves
Dani Alves is another of the greatest players in La Blaugrana. He is currently a full-back who is able to defend himself with the free kick and ability to cross.
Dani Alves did a great job during the match between Barca and Club Atletico Bilbao. Alves is able to survive under pressure and deserves a 9.7/10.
5. Gerard Pique
Gerard Pique was able to show people what he is capable of doing during the match at San Siro and Camp Nou. During the match between Barca and Club Atletico Bilbao, Pique blocked an attempt by Club Atletico Bilbao to score.
If it were not for Pique, the score would have been FC Barcelona 2-1 Club Atletico Bilbao. Pique deserves a rating of 9.9/10.
7. Andres Iniesta
Andres Iniesta is a complete player in the midfield. Iniesta showed his expertise as a player by scoring the first goal against Club Atletico Bilbao at Camp Nou.
He was present during the match against AC Milan at San Siro. Iniesta was able to cover the midfield in both matches.
Iniesta deserves a score of 9.7/10.
8. Javier Mascherano
Javier Mascherano was an important player in the match against AC Milan at San Siro. He was also one of the protagonists in the match against Club Atletico Bilbao.
Mascherano was able to be on the offense as well as the defense as a midfielder. Mascherano impressed Pep Guardiola (FC Barcelona coach), who praised him during a press conference after the match.
Guardiola said that he would never exchange Mascherano for anything in the world. Mascherano receives a rating of 9.7/10.
9. Pedro Rodriguez
Pedro Rodriguez was present at the second half of the match between FC Barcelona and Club Atletico Bilbao at Camp Nou. He was present at San Siro in the UEFA Champions League against AC Milan.
Pedro did not appear to have done much in the two matches and he will receive a rating of 7/10.
10. Adriano Correia
Adriano received his medical clearance to participate in the match against Club Atletico Bilbao. He was unable to participate in the match against AC Milan at San Siro.
The reason was an injury to the semimembranosus muscle of his right leg. Adriano was able to help FC Barcelona with his minimal participation.
Adriano is not going to receive a rating since he is gradually going back to his form in playing football.
11. Cristian Tello
Cristian Tello was instrumental in scoring two goals in the historical UEFA Champions League match between FC Barcelona and Bayer Leverkusen. Tello has been making a name for himself in La Blaugrana in the current La Liga season.
I think that he is the future of FC Barcelona and can face AC Milan. If there is any doubt, please feel free to enjoy this video.
Tello receives a rating of 9/10 for the upcoming match against AC Milan at Camp Nou and his show of discipline and tenacity.
12. Thiago Alcantara
Thiago Alcantara is considered the future of FC Barcelona and the next Xavi. He is an expert (according to the FC Barcelona website) in free kicks and passing.
Thiago participated in the San Siro match against AC Milan and the Camp Nou match against Club Atletico Bilbao. He was able to execute passes as well as free kicks.
What cannot be told in writing is better explained in this video. Thiago receives a 9.3/10 in the rating for AC Milan.
13. Seydou Keita and Xavi Hernandez
I had the honor of seeing Seydou Keita and Xavi Hernandez represent FC Barcelona against Chivas of Guadalajara last year at Sun Life Stadium in Miami Florida. The two were impressive with their discipline and tenacity in a football field.
Seydou Keita has a powerful left foot which is able to translate into more goals. He saw action in the UEFA Champions League match against AC Milan at San Siro.
Keita was able to maintain the same offense and defense, although at a slower pace. Keita is over 30 years old and is reaching a point where footballers have to decide to retire or go elsewhere.
Keita receives a 9/10 for his efforts, although he has to think about the future.
Xavi Hernandez participated in the UEFA Champions League match against AC Milan at San Siro. He was only present for 15 minutes in the match against Club Atletico Bilbao.
The only problem with Xavi is that age is reaching him. Xavi is 32 years old and the reflexes of a footballer of that age is not the same as one in their twenties.
According to Goal with a h/t to El Mundo Deportivo, Xavi may miss the second leg of the quarterfinal UCL match against AC Milan. The reason is a muscle injury which caused him to be absent from Sunday training.
Eventually, he will have to think about his future as well. Hernandez receives a rating of 8/10.
14. Sergio Busquets
Sergio Busquets participated in the UEFA Champions League against AC Milan at San Siro and yesterday's match against Club Atletico Bilbao.
Busquets received the most fouls in the match against Club Atletico Bilbao. He did not perform as well at San Siro.
Busquets receives a rating of 6.5/10.
15. Carles Puyol
Carles Puyol was able to stand his ground at San Siro against AC Milan and Camp Nou against Club Atletico Bilbao. It seems that age is beginning to affect his movements on the field.
Puyol, at the age of 34, is another player who will have to think about his future. At the present time, he receives a rating of 9/10.
While there can be comments about whether the ratings were extremely high, it is just a personal opinion based on what transpired last week at San Siro and Camp Nou. The UEFA Champions League match between AC Milan and FC Barcelona cannot be measured in numbers, with one exception.
Pep Guardiola who is La Blaugrana's coach said that "one goal against AC Milan will not be enough" in an article by Dawn with a h/t to AFP. Guardiola admits that Barca is going to have to score two or more goals to advance to the UEFA Champions League semifinals.
It remains to be seen what will transpire, but thanks to the BR readers for their time in viewing this slideshow. Until next time.
