Liverpool FC: 10 Possible Signings from Relegation-Threatened Teams
Liverpool FC need investments, but with the possibility of Kenny Dalglish having limited funds next season, I have decided to have a look at some of the players from the five teamsย trenchedย in a relegation battle at the moment: Blackburn, Bolton, QPR, Wigan and Wolves.
With relegation comes better-valued players as the relegated team is forced to sell its star players. With the prospect of no Champions League, Liverpool may be forced to buy local once again.
With Liverpool playing in four competitions next season and Dalglish already proclaiming that three games in one week is too much, Liverpool may be forced to rotate a lot more next season. I believe the following players will improve the current Liverpool squad.
10. Joey Barton
1 of 10Controversial? Yes. Good player? Yes.
A policy of signing supposed "bad apples" has worked out for Liverpool. Last season they picked up Luis Suarez and Craig Bellamy, who both proved to be fantastic signings.ย
Joey Barton was linked with a Liverpool move last season before he joined QPR. The reason I picked Barton was because he would make a good squad player, and his set pieceย deliveryย at Newcastle wasย fantastic. He could provide the ammunition that Carroll has struggled to receive at Liverpool.
Possible Fee: ยฃ4.5M
9. Kevin Doyle
2 of 10A player who hasn't had the best season for Wolves, Doyle still gives you industry and fight, which seems to be lacking a bit at Liverpool at the moment. Doyle doesn't get much service at Wolves, but Iย believe that at the right club he can score goals, as he is a good finisher.
For the right price, Doyle could improve the Liverpool squad. Doyle has only scored four goals for Wolves this season, but how does that compare to Liverpool strikers at the moment?ย
Suarez: seven goals
Carroll: three goals
Bellamy: six goals
Kuyt: two goals
Possible Fee: ยฃ4M
8. Shaun Wright-Philips
3 of 10A pacy right-winger surely is on the shopping list for Liverpool this season. Although SWP is in the wrong age bracket, theย diminutiveย winger still has bundles of pace and is fearless taking on full backs.ย
Wright-Philips would be a nice squad option, but with the emergence of Sterling, he may not get much game time.ย
Possible Fee: ยฃ2.5M
7. Stephen Fletcher
4 of 10Would aย strikerย in double digits for goals scored this season be on Liverpool's shopping list? You bet!
Fletcher has scored 10 goals this season and last season. Only 25 years old, Fletcher still hasย potentialย to become better and isย premiershipย proven.
Possible Fee: ยฃ8M
6. James McCarthy
5 of 10The highly-rated young midfielder has goodย technique and first team experience and is still only 21 years old. McCarthy has been a vocal point in the Wigan attack despite his one assist this season. Like Modric, McCarthy is always the starter of the attack.
Theย Irishย midfielder recently signed a five-year contract with Wigan, which may be a stumbling block to any transfer deal.
Possible Fee: ยฃ10M
5. Ivan Klasnic
6 of 10Ivan Klasnic has scored eight goals this term already, which means if he was at Liverpool now he would be the topย goalscorer. At the age of 32,ย Klasnic would be a short-term option, but with Liverpoolย waitingย onย Carroll'sย development, he would be a good short-term measurement.
Possible Fee: ย ยฃ1.5M ย
4. Victor Moses
7 of 10When Crystal Palace went into administration, Moses signed for Wigan Athletic for 2.5 million. The highly rated player can play in a variety ofย positionsย includingย either wing and striker. Moses has scored three goals this season and is still only 21 years old.
Possible Fee: ยฃ9.5M
3. Matt Jarvis
8 of 10With Stewart Downing not firing on allย cylindersย for Liverpool, a left-winger may be on the radar for Liverpool scouts.
With five assists and four goals this season, Jarvis has been a pillar of consistency for Wolves throughout the years, but his loyalty may be tested if Wolves go down.
Possible Fee: ยฃ8M
2. Junior Hoilett
9 of 10With six assists and six goals this season, Hoillett has been a standout performer in a forgettable season for Blackburn. He can play both wings and also up front.
With his contract expiring at the end of the season, Blackburn have aย fightย on their hands to keep him, and it is lookingย increasinglyย likely that he will leave.
Possible Fee: ยฃ0 (contract expires)
1.Hugo Rodallega
10 of 10Hugo Rodallega is a pacy and strong striker who has performed for Wigan Athletic for the past three seasons. Although this season he has performed indifferently, the Colombian international will thrive on the chances created at Liverpool.
With his contract expiring, Liverpool will be able to pick him up cheaply and he will improve the squad options.
