WWE Raw Results: Top 15 Moments from Last Night's Supershow

Justin WatryMay 31, 2018

I really liked WWE Raw last night. It gave some attention to the Royal Rumble and was entertaining for two hours.

Of course, not everything was perfect. I may sound like a broken record, but there are a few issues that need to be repeated.

If I had to grade the show, I would fall in the B range. I think last week may have been better, this was week was also a great show.

Here are my top moments from last night!

15. Live Audience

1 of 15

The live audience last night was excellent. A crowd is often what makes or breaks a show. In the case of Raw, the California fans came through big time!

I just had to give them a big shout out! I will be live at the Elimination Chamber event next month, and I will do my best to try and top you!

14. Smackdown Hype

2 of 15

This is important.

WWE actually took some time to promote Smackdown this week. It may seem minor, but it goes a long way. Some fans only watch Raw. Some only watch Smackdown.

If I ran WWE, I would certainly cross-promote the two each week. Nice job! Keep doing it...

13. Perez Hilton and the Divas

3 of 15

This was fine.

I have no idea why Perez Hilton was booed. Perhaps somebody can explain to me why? He was wearing an old school Raw shirt, and that is enough for me to cheer you.

Kelly Kelly and Alicia Fox defeated the Bella Twins in a nice match. Kelly Kelly did all the work, but one of my three "it" girls picked up yet another win. Alicia stood tall, and that is all that matters here.

Great job everybody!

12. Rumble PPV?

4 of 15

The huge event is in less than two weeks. Do not forget that folks!

WWE needs to start pushing the major show. They did so a little bit last night. We saw the usual Rumble videos, but we also got another match added.

John Cena vs. Kane should make for a fun match. Cena can't be in the Rumble for obvious reasons (facing The Rock at Mania), and Kane finally gets a break from the 30-man match.

11. Brodus Clay Is a Star

5 of 15

Yet again, Brodus Clay put on an entertaining segment. His valets looked great. The action inside the ring was fine. The crowd is slowing warming up to his act.

I loved it last week. I loved it even more this week. I am sure some will still be clamoring for the "monster heel push," but that doesn't always work as planned.

Did Kozlov get over in 2009? Or King Mabel? Or Snitsky? Or Heidenreich?

Just saying somebody will get over as a huge heel is not always a given. Brodus is excellent in this role for now.

10. Vickie Guerrero Is Amazing

6 of 15

She got a lot of air time last night, and I don't care. If the performer is just that good, so be it!

Her promos get better and better. Her crowd reaction gets better and better. Her looks get better and better. Her appearances on Raw are always welcome.

Keep up the great work Vickie!

9. Rosa Mendes Has "It"

7 of 15

Epico and Primo defeated Air Boom in a short match to retain their titles. I really can't comment on Evan Bourne or Kofi Kingston until tomorrow, but I have no problem with any of this.

Title changes at live events should be done more often. At least once every few months? Not once every couple years! The titles going to a new team was expected for the last month or so, and it is fine by me.

Rosa Mendes is one my other "it" girls, and she showed why again last night. No matter what she does, it is "must see" television. Her being with Epico and Primo is perfect.

Her and Alicia Fox had top notch performances on Raw. All I need know is another great showing by Aksana come Friday night!

8. Opening Segment

8 of 15

Mick Foley was amazing in the opening. I enjoyable the "lovable guy," but his intense promos are great. I would love to see more of this Foley.

Him and Dolph Ziggler talking face to face was excellent. If that was a teaser for WrestleMania, I am all for it! I can't seem to think of a spot for Ziggler at Mania right now, so why not face a legend?

Foley is more than willing to do the ring thing for business, so a big win for Dolph may be coming. Just a few thoughts...

Either way, Foley wanted a Rumble spot and Johnny Ace wasn't too sure. It gave us a cliffhanger, as well as created some tension between Ziggler and Punk. Very nice opening!

7. R-Truth Promo

9 of 15

I am still not sold on R-Truth being a top face, but this was fun. His "pictures' were worth a laugh, and the live crowd seemed to like him.

Of course, Wade Barrett also shined on the microphone. I could have done without the "What?" chants, but you can't predict what fans will do.

Miz and Sheamus getting involved was expected. I loved the "pop" Sheamus got. That guy is going to be a major star very soon...

6. Over the Top Rope Challenge

10 of 15

Teddy Long threw all of those four men into an over-the-top rope challenge as a teaser for the Royal Rumble PPV in two weeks.

I liked this idea.

It would have been nice to have a stipulation added on. Winner gets the No. 30 spot or something, but I also like the entry numbers being surprises.

While it may be surprising to some Truth picked up the win, I expected it. Think about it. He needs some steam as a face, and he certainly won't win the actual Rumble in two weeks.

Thus, why not give him a nice win here? He can enjoy the moment, while the other three have a realistic chance at winning the real prize in St. Louis.

5. Mark Henry Concerns

11 of 15

Is he healed up yet? Please tell me he is healthy right now. From what I see, he is still hurting.

Once again, he was barely involved in a match he was schedule for. Mark Henry was limping around the entire time. His appearance was short and I don't think he took a single "bump."

If the man can't compete, keep him out of the ring.

The worst part? He is in a World Title match Friday night against Daniel Bryan! Safety comes first folks.

4. John Cena Appearances

12 of 15

John Cena was okay last night. It just felt like WWE was stalling for another week with the Kane/Cena feud. That was just my perception.

He had a short match with Jack Swagger. He beat him down and had a stare down with Kane on the Titan-Tron. Nothing special. Nothing bad either. It was just "there."

3. Main Event Segment

13 of 15

The main event was Chris Jericho, Daniel Bryan and CM Punk vs. David Otunga, Mark Henry and Dolph Ziggler. This was followed by a very interesting promo by Bryan about AJ's well being. We will find out a lot more on Smackdown.

As for this match, it was packed with events. Here is the break down:

First, Jericho "got us" again. I think a lot of people predicted he would walk out on his team, but it was still brilliant. That man gets better and better every week.

Second, Bryan and Henry brawled out of the match, leaving it Punk vs. Ziggler and Otunga. Nicely done!

That brought out Mick Foley to help out Punk. That was cool to see, I have to admit. He picked up the win with Mr. Socko but Johnny Ace called it off after announcing Mick was not legally in the match.

Then Punk and Johnny Ace had a very entertaining verbal battle. The "insider references" were kept to a minimum, so I have no complaints there. The two kept it focused on the PPV (as they should) and each man teased a major event will happen at the Royal Rumble one way or another.

I am curious as to where Foley fits into all of this. Will he eventually be the Raw General Manager? Or the special referee in the WWE Title match? Or is this all just about getting a match down the line?

Lots of questions going forward with all three men.

2. New United States Champion!

14 of 15

Who wants to question why I cover the ratings every Tuesday afternoon anymore?

I think last night's Raw said it better than I ever could.

First, let me focus on Jack Swagger. I wrote about this man one month ago. His future is about to be looking bright again and him turning face in 2012 is very likely. Congrats on a big win!

Now, to Zack Ryder! I must say that I enjoyed him last night. He was serious. He never made any ridiculous jokes. He was focused on his title belt, and he showed some real emotion.

That is what I want to see! I know I repeat this over and over, but his "goofy" character needs to eventually evolve.

However, it seems like nobody wanted to listen.

On November 9th, 2011, I first sensed there was trouble with the Mr. Ryder moving forward.

Then came November 25th, 2011! Again, it was not good for the Zack Pack!

On December 6th, 2011, the ratings told a very sad tale yet again.

Who can forget the infamous "lowest overrun of the year" segment a few weeks later?

Finally, we find out him with Eve last week was the lowest rated segment "in perhaps a decade."

Numbers don't lie folks! I am interested to see where Swagger and Ryder go in the next few weeks with the Road to Wrestle Mania starting up.

1. Please Not Again WWE!

15 of 15

I did not like this in October.

I did not like this in November.

I did not like this in December.

Well, WWE did it again.

Jack Swagger competed in two matches in one night. That is not going to sit well with me. Not only do I fear for the performer, but I do not need to see him in two separate matches in less than an hour.

He won the United States title, yet he went back out there to get destroyed by Cena? That was not needed. It was also very scary to watch.

Swagger does not need to risk anything right now. He has had a nice run going, and his safety needs to take priority. Not a title. Not a story line. His health!

Please! Enough of wrestlers pulling "double duty" in one night. Safety comes first folks.
