Knicks Rumors: Don't Expect Jeremy Lin To Last Long in Big Apple
Don’t get too comfortable with Jeremy Lin Knicks fans.
New York claimed Linn off waivers on Tuesday to replace Iman Shumpert (who suffered an MCL sprain on Sunday and will be out for two to four weeks) and will meet the Bay Area native in Golden State on Wednesday. The 6'3" 200-pound Lin averaged 2.6 points, 1.4 assists and 1.2 rebounds in about 10 minutes of action last season.
The Harvard grad was released on Sunday by the Rockets to make room for Samuel Dalembert on their roster. Before that, he was released by the Warriors so they could create salary cap space for DeAndre Jordan, who eventually stayed with the Clippers.
In other words, Lin isn’t exactly a hot commodity in the NBA. Three teams in the span of three weeks make that statement pretty obvious.
The Knicks are dealing with a severe lack of depth and any sort of injury that keeps a player out for more than a few days will require the team to make a move. The contract is non-guaranteed, meaning Lin can remain on the Knicks' roster all the way up until February 5th without counting against their salary cap.
New York needs bodies and Lin was happy to oblige, at least that's what it sounds like when you listen to his agent Roger Montgomery:
Jeremy's just looking for an opportunity to show what he can do. And, what better place to do so, than on the biggest stage in basketball?
Lin appeared in 29 games for the Warriors last year, marking the first time an Asian-American player played in a regular-season game since 1947.
With Baron Davis out for at least a month, and Mike Bibby nursing a back injury in addition to the Shumbert injury, Lin now fills out the roster to 15.
I fully expect this to be a temporary fix that has an expiration date at some point in the month of January.
