Why Tim Tebow's Broncos Will Beat Tom Brady's Patriots

Kevin LarsonDec 17, 2011

As America waits for quite possibly the most-watched game of the NFL this season, there are many people speculating that the Patriots will put an end to Tim Tebow's amazing run as the Broncos' starter, going 7-1 since taking over for Kyle Orton. Some experts are even completely dismissing the thought of the Broncos pulling off the incredible upset, saying the Pats will demolish the Broncos.

However, I'm here to tell you that won't be the case. Here are my reasons why the Broncos will come out on top after America's game of the week (and quite possibly the season).

That God Awful Patriots D

1 of 7

Guess who averages over 300 yards passing vs. the Patriots this season?

Everyone.

The Pats are currently giving up on average 308.7 yards per game through the air. They let Dan Orlovsky, the 3rd string QB in Indy, throw for 353 yards in the air. Guess how many times Peyton Manning has thrown for that many yards or more in his illustrious career against the Patriots?

Once.

So you're going to tell me that Tebow won't be able to throw against this secondary? Mind you, one that's starting offensive players due to injuries?

Last year when Tebow faced the league's worst pass defense (The Houston Texans) he threw for over 300 yards and the Broncos won the game. I expect a similar performance against this defense that narrowly escaped losses from the Redskins and Colts, beating each by a touchdown.

That Godly Broncos D

2 of 7

Since Tebow's taken the reins of the Broncos' offense, the defense has seen a miraculous turnaround. In the eight games Tebow's started, excluding the Lions blowout, the Broncos' D is giving up an average of 16.7 points per game. Only Houston, Pittsburgh, San Francisco, and Baltimore are averaging better numbers throughout the course of the season.

Von Miller has helped rejuvenate this defense as well, leading the way with 11.5 sacks—good enough for second in the AFC behind Baltimore's Terrell Suggs.

While Brady will surely get his fair share of touchdowns no matter who he plays, the Broncos' D will be able to slow him down considerably.

The Patriots' History Against the Broncos

3 of 7

Quick. How many times have the Patriots beaten the Broncos since '01?

Twice.

Their record against the Broncos in the past decade is 2-6. And that's throughout their entire "dynasty" years, if you wish to call them that. Not to mention, the last time the Pats came to Mile High is a time they'd rather forget as Josh McDaniels beat his former team in OT (Brady only threw for 215 yards that game).

And everyone in Denver still remembers the Champ Bailey interception in the 2005 AFC Divisional Round of the playoffs.

The Broncos are New England's least-favorite opponent. Without a doubt, Brady must have some recollection of all the bad memories the Broncos have given him.

The Broncos Will Minimize Gronk

4 of 7

There isn't anybody that's playing better in the NFL right now than Rob Gronkowski.

He's having a historic season, but even in historic seasons you'll face a couple of hiccups here and there. The Broncos will be one of them.

Get this: The Broncos have been the 4th-best defense against tight ends, never allowing more than 74 yards and a touchdown to anyone. While you might expect that in one drive from Gronkowski, I believe Denver will have something to say about that.

Gronk does what Gronk wants, but his biggest test will surely be this Broncos D. Look for the latter to come up huge.

The Fans Are Alive Again

5 of 7

Mile High has always been known as a tough place to play because of the fans. In the past couple of years the fanfare hasn't been quite up to par. Tough losses and a season below .500 will do that to this town.

But given how the Broncos are playing as of late with good defense and an offense with a knack for comebacks, the faithfuls are as happy as ever.

You can bet your bottom dollar that with a big game like this, the crowd will certainly be a factor when determining the outcome of this game.

The Tim Tebow Factor

6 of 7

You can't explain it.

There's just something that this kid brings to the Broncos and everyone around him—he's polarizing.

Why do you think CBS fought so hard to keep this game in the two o'clock slot instead of letting air on prime time?

Why do you think Robert Kraft fought so hard to keep it there as well?

The media attention gravitates to him. He just accepts it and plays as hard as he can. You can put all the pressure in the world on him and somehow he comes through.

I can only imagine how focused and prepared Tebow will be come game time tomorrow.

Final Score: 27-20 Broncos

7 of 7

In the end I believe the Broncos will win 27-20.

Tebow will throw for the 300 yards the Patriots D averages and the Broncos D will come up huge late in the 4th quarter.

This "game of the week" will surely be remembered as "game of the season" when all is said and done.
