NBA Rumors: Los Angeles Clippers Need To Walk Away from Chris Paul Trade Talks
The Los Angeles Clippers swooped in on the Chris Paul trade sweepstakes after the Lakers were denied by David Stern, but the fun is over. It’s time to abort the mission.
The New Orleans Hornets and the NBA executives that technically own the team now have waged war on any and all trade partners, demanding all of the assets those teams have.
Reports have the David Stern and league officials asking for Eric Gordon, Chris Kaman, Al-Farouq Aminu, Eric Bledsoe and Minnesota's unprotected 2012 first-round draft pick in return from the Clippers for Chris Paul.
Insanity.
TNT NBA Insider David Aldridge is reporting about the gap in negotiations between the two franchises:
"Sources late Monday night indicated that the Hornets — whose negotiations for Paul are being handled by the NBA, which owns the team — believed there was still a chance that they could find common ground with the Clippers on a deal. But a source directly involved in the negotiations said early Tuesday morning that it was doubtful the Hornets would compromise enough for Los Angeles to be interested.
"
For the first time in my adult life, the Clippers may have made the right move for the future. While they are notoriously bad with things like this, walking away is the best way to handle this situation for Los Angeles.
If the well dries up for the league in their pursuit to trade Paul, they will come back to the Clippers who will then be able to low ball the Hornets into giving up Paul for less than they had wanted.
This is a strategic move that reinstalls hope that the Clip show may be taking over LA in a big way over the next few seasons. Los Angeles has an opportunity to call the NBA’s bluff and it just may pay off.
Imagine alley-oop passes from Chris Paul to Blake Griffin.
