Miami Heat Rumors: Free Agents Most Likely to Play with LeBron, Wade and Bosh

Josh MartinDec 8, 2011

So now that the Lakers have had their budding dynasty disassembled by the NBA, it's time for the Miami Heat to make sure their own triumvirate of LeBron James, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh still has enough spare parts laying around to maintain their claim to the next Larry O'Brien Trophy.

That will be no easy task, considering the lack of financial wiggle room with which Pat Riley has to work at the moment.

Shane Battier is on board (and rather emphatically so). He'll do wonders to fill Miami's need for a glue guy who can play defense and hit the occasional shot from outside.

Which then leaves Riles to peruse the scrap heap of free agents to complete his team's roster.

Emphasis on "scrap".

Still, the Heat have some options on the table to help out at the point and the pivot, where they really could use some depth.

So hold your noses, Heat fans! Here are four guys who might be calling South Beach home this season.

Mario Chalmers

Riles won't need to look far for a point guard. The Heat still own the right to match any offer for restricted free agent Mario Chalmers, who, according to Ira Winderman of the South Florida Sun-Sentinel, hasn't fielded many (if any) offers from other teams.

As such, expect to see Chalmers back in a Heat uniform, without Mike Bibby or Carlos Arroyo to keep him out of the starting lineup.

Chalmers, by the way, still has plenty of upside and is more than capable of playing the point on a team where Wade and LeBron are handling the ball 70 percent of the time. He can defend the point on one end and hit the occasional outside shot on the other.

In other words, expect Pat Riley to expect any offer sheets that come Chalmers' way.

Eddy Curry

Eddy Curry to the Heat also appears to be a done deal.

According to Alex Kennedy of HoopsWorld, Curry is already in Miami and will sign with the team once free agent deals can be made official on Friday.

An interesting move, to say the least.

Curry played in all of 10 games over his last two seasons with the Knicks—and not solely because he was hurt. He's long been known for his poor attitude and near-non-existent work ethic, which has turned a seven-footer into a walking heap of squandered talent.

Still, Curry is 29, and has averaged 13.3 points and 5.3 rebounds over the course of his rocky career.

If the Heat can get even half of that out of him, it should be enough to hold up the middle along with Joel Anthony and Dexter Pittman.

Kwame Brown

If, for whatever reason, Curry doesn't work out with the Heat, the team could opt for Kwame Brown.

Yikes.

Chris Tomasson of FOX Sports reported on Thursday that Brown's agent, Mark Bartelstein, was in South Beach pushing both of his Browns—Kwame and Shannon.

And while Shannon is expected to sign with the Suns, Kwame could still be in play for the Heatles.

That is, if Miami isn't already content with three warm bodies in the post as is.

To be fair, Kwame actually performed admirably for the Bobcats last season, putting up his best numbers since 2006-07.

But, realistically, the Heat already have better big men than Kwame around and, as such, would be wise to leave him be.

Josh Howard

As far as quality players are concerned, the Heat are interested in picking up Josh Howard, says ESPN's Chris Broussard.

Howard tore his ACL in February while playing for the Washington Wizards. If he's healthy, Howard would give the Heat some intriguing depth on the wing behind Wade and LeBron.

Of course, with Battier on board, that shouldn't be too much of an issue, though if Miami can land Howard on the cheap, they surely wouldn't mind having another 15-point-per-game scorer to pull off their bench.
