Knicks Rumors: Cheap NBA Free Agent Options for New York
We're another day closer to the beginning of free agency and that means some more New York Knicks rumors.
The Knicks are already eyeing Chris Paul in 2012, so they will likely only be offering up only one-year deals to potential free agents unless something crazy happens.
The latest two guys to be linked to New York according to the New York Post include Heat small forward Mike Miller and Warriors center Andris Biedrins.
Both guys could be potential amnesty-clause casualties from their current clubs and may be attractive to the Knicks.
Biedrins would be the most attractive, since the Knicks need a big center that can rebound and play defense. He's also a good shot-blocker who despite struggling offensively could become attractive to New York.
He averaged 5.0 points per game and 7.8 boards per game, but there is no guarantee that the club would even get a shot at him. The teams that are currently under the salary cap get the first shot at all amnesty casualties. The Knicks are currently over the cap.
There is also no guarantee that a guy like Biedrins would accept the veteran's minimum to come to New York.
That leaves us a bunch of leftover big men that they could land for cheap.
Options on that list include Kurt Thomas, Kwame Brown, Aaron Gray, Tony Battie and Theo Ratliff.
Thomas would be a nice option, but according to his agent, he feels the Bulls are closer to a championship and he wants to win a title.
That leaves them with the option of hopefully landing one or two of the other four guys. While a combination of Brown and Gray might not be anything special, it would give them more size than than they had before.
Another option is bringing either Jared Jeffries or Shelden Williams back, which the Knicks haven't ruled out.
