NBA Free Agents: Will Vince Carter, McGrady Reunite & Sign with Chicago Bulls?

Mike B.Dec 2, 2011

The Chicago Bulls are perhaps a shooting guard away from winning an NBA championship.

The team will have a plethora of options to fill the position, such as Jason Richardson, Jamal Crawford and Marcus Thornton.

There won't be any superstars available, but there may be a former superstar who the Bulls can land and that's Vince Carter.

Carter, an eight-time All-Star and former Slam Dunk champ, could very well sign a deal with the Bulls if the Phoenix Suns don't pick up his option. And there's a possibility that he could be joined in the Windy City by his famous cousin Tracy McGrady.

If both Vinsanity and T-Mac end up making their way to Chicago this offseason, it would be the first time the two have played together since the 1999-00 season, back when they starred for the Toronto Raptors.

Both players have accomplished quite a bit. Carter is one of the best dunkers of all time—maybe ever—and used to be a perennial 20-point-per-game scorer. And McGrady has been named an All-Star on seven occasions and led the league in scoring in both 2003 and 2004.

However, neither player has ever won a title, which is the main reason they would want to play for a special ball club like the Bulls.

Carter could start at the shooting guard spot alongside Derrick Rose in the backcourt and would be a major upgrade over last season's starter Keith Bogans.

Carter averaged 14 points per game last season, splitting time in Orlando and Phoenix. The 34-year-old isn't going to put up numbers like he did in Toronto, but he could certainly assist Rose with the scoring load.

McGrady could provide a little bit of scoring punch off the bench for the Bulls, backing up Luol Deng at the small forward spot. He could also see a few minutes at point guard like he did last season in Detroit

Speaking of last season, McGrady averaged just eight points per game, way less than the 32 PPG that he put up in 2003. However, he could still serve as an excellent role player in Chicago and wouldn't need to be signed to an expensive contract.

Some fans out there believe Carter and McGrady would've won a championship if they had remained teammates longer in Toronto. The two spent three seasons together with the team before McGrady bolted town for Orlando, where he basically became a megastar over night.

The two cousins obviously didn't win it all north of the border, but will they wind up receiving their first rings in Chicago?

Only time will tell.
