BCS Bowl Predictions: Wisconsin Will Get Revenge over Michigan State
Michigan State's luck won't come in pairs in 2011.
The Oregon Ducks are praying that it's the Spartans—not the Wisconsin Badgers—that they match up with in the 2012 Rose Bowl, but their prayers won't be answered. A blocked punt recovered for a touchdown at the end of the first half and a miracle "Hail Mary" as time expired were the difference in Michigan State's first meeting with Wisconsin.
But the Spartans' luck will run out in Round Two.
While Michigan State boasts one of the best defenses in the nation, so does Wisconsin.
The Badgers, though, actually have a loaded offense as well—unlike Michigan State. Their pair of potential Heisman candidates in Russell Wilson and Montee Ball headline an offense that averages 44.8 points per game, good four fourth in the country. The Spartans average a whopping two touchdowns less at 30.2 points per game.
Wisconsin is coming off of a 45-7 massacre of Penn State. They made the No. 19 Nittany Lions look like they didn’t even deserve to be on the same field. The combination of the Badgers being loaded with talent and the Spartans' lack thereof isn’t a good one for Michigan State.
While the Spartans conveniently defended its home turf the first time around, they won't have that luxury this Saturday.
Michigan State has a chance to pull off the upset if the game turns into a defensive struggle. In a shootout, though, the Spartans have no shot; the same could be said in a match-up with Oregon.
Wisconsin has the firepower to keep pace with LaMichael James and company. Michigan State, on the other hand, would simply fulfill the typical Big Ten stereotype that they're too slow. Their only chance of coming away victorious would be keeping the score under 30.
Expect the potential Heisman candidates to match up in Pasadena.
