UFC on FOX Results: 4 Fights to Get Cain Velasquez Back on Track
In the biggest fight of his mixed martial arts career, UFC heavyweight Cain Velasquez took the Octagon to take on No. 1 contender, Junior dos Santos.
Velasquez entered the Octagon having never lost a fight in his mixed martial arts career.
But, just 64 seconds later, not only did Velasquez endure the first defeat of his career, but he lost his heavyweight title as well.
Despite being dethroned from the top of the heavyweight division, Velasquez remains a legitimate contender.
So, the following slides display four fights to get Cain Velasquez back on track.
Let's take a look.
Brock Lesnar vs. Alistair Overeem Loser
1 of 4After being off for more than a year, former UFC heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar will enter the Octagon at UFC 141 to take on UFC newcomer, Alistair Overeem.
As fans know, the winner of their highly-anticipated bout will move on to face current champion Junior dos Santos.
And, while the winner will certainly know what their future holds, the loser will need a fight to get back on track.
So, who better for the loser to take on than Cain Velasquez?
Frank Mir vs. Antonio Nogueira Winner
2 of 4Despite losing to Shane Carwin at UFC 111 in a chance to capture the UFC interim heavyweight championship, Frank Mir went on to win his next two fights over Roy Nelson and Mirko Cro Cop.
Mir has won three of his last four bouts and is set to take on Antonio Nogueira at UFC 140.
Nogueira, who has already lost to Mir and Velasquez, and will look to seek revenge one fight at a time beginning with Mir on December 10th.
The winner will continue in their recent success which could lead them to a showdown with Cain Velasquez.
Roy Nelson
3 of 4Roy Nelson shocked the world when he entered the Octagon at UFC 137 to take on mixed martial arts legend, Mirko Cro Cop.
Not necessarily for the performance he displayed, but the physical condition he arrived in.
Following his victory, Nelson called out, then-heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez to a title fight.
Unfortunately for Nelson, he may get to square off with Velasquez, it just won’t be a title fight.
Cheick Kongo
4 of 4Cheick Kongo entered UFC 137 on the best stretch of his mixed martial arts career as he hadn’t lost since December of 2009.
Kongo continued in his winning ways as he took Matt Mitrione to the judges' scorecards to be declare victorious via Unanimous Decision.
While his performance wasn’t necessarily overly impressive, Kongo has been on a hot streak and in need of his next opponent.
Cain Velasquez may very well be the man to fill that void.
