Fantasy Football Rankings Week 9: Philip Rivers and QBs Who Will Explode

Kyle VassaloNov 4, 2011

Believe it or not, there are quarterbacks aside from Aaron Rodgers who are slinging the ball around. Vulnerable defenses are going to be torched by some of the game's best, and while Rodgers obviously fits that description, he's not the only gunslinger who is going to bury garbage secondaries.

This season has already changed fantasy football forever. The days of seeing every-down backs consume the first five picks are behind us. There is a solid chance Rodgers becomes the most highly touted player in fantasy by the time next season rolls around.

The reasoning? People realize more than ever how valuable having an elite fantasy quarterback is. This week, it's not just elite quarterbacks who'll wreak havoc. Here are three quarterbacks who will explode for monster fantasy outings in Week 9.

Philip Rivers

Philip Rivers has been pedestrian at best this season. With seven touchdowns versus 11 interceptions, Rivers has gone from fantasy juggernaut to a middle-of-the-road fringe starter.

Not to worry. Rivers is coming off a 369-yard performance and is facing the Green Bay Packers. His interceptions will remain up and he's going to struggle in a losing effort, but Green Bay has the second-worst pass defense in the league and the Chargers are going to have to play catch up the entire game.

Expect Rivers to have another tough day, but one in which he racks up ridiculous numbers.

Eli Manning has thrown for over 320 yards in three of his last four outings. He's got 13 touchdowns this season and if you've got Manning on your fantasy squad, you know he's capable of shredding an opposing secondary.

It just so happens that the Giants take on the Patriots this week. While it's a daunting matchup for the Giants, Manning faces an easy foe in the Pats' secondary.

The Patriots are the only team to allow over 300 passing yards per game. They put forth the worst pass defense by a landslide, and Manning is only going to further expose their porous secondary.

Aaron Rodgers

The Chargers have inflated stats because of the soft schedule they've faced. Their fourth-ranked pass defense shouldn't deter Aaron Rodgers' owners from having unabashed faith in this year's MVP front-runner.

Aside from Tom Brady, the best quarterback the Chargers have faced is Mark Sanchez. Yikes.

Rodgers has thrown for 300 yards or more and at least two touchdowns in every single game this season, except for one "off" day where he allotted 297 yards through the air.

Rodgers and the Packers have the edge on any defense they face and the overrated Chargers "D" will never forget the day they were dismantled in a benchmark game that will show them how they stack up against the NFL's best.
